I have thought about it over the years. But opted for just having flat screen monitors on my rig. Nobody has ever asked and the one time I nearly used on, there wasn't room for it (wall space, etc) so I'm pleased I didn't offer it.

One thing I always carry with me is lots of VGA and S-Video extensions (approx 30 metres of each) so that if the venue has big screens I can plug into them - which is always an added bonus as the lyrics are bigger and on more than one screen.

I also almost used one as i've recently got a cheap one but did'nt due to lack of time to play about with it and get visuals. also don't have a screen to project on.

I do think projectors can look really good in some venues when projected onto walls and looks great for karaoke but can be expensive to run (£500-£1000 for projector, £100-£300 for a screen, £100+ for VJ software, £250-£500 for projector bulb plus all the leads and stands).

good if you can aford it tho.

Rubbish!:)

You can buy a suitable projector for the job for under £250, New 2000hr lamps for it are about £100 A collapsible photographic diffuser is available for between £40 and £70 (depending on size) which is suitable for both front and back projection. A stand for the diffuser can be had for about £50. Decent karaoke software can be had for under £40. Total under £400 initially (less than a decent light fixture).

2000 hrs gives about 400 5 hour gigs for the lamp life.

I would love to know where you shop at...

Decent new projectors are very pricey. see link below for examples.

you have done the correct math on the lamp life but by moving the projector after use will shorten lamp life. using it for 5 hours straight will also shorten lamp life and the lamp life they say is never correct.

Why do you need such a well specified projector?

A 1500 to 2000 ansi projector will do the job just fine. I have been using a Hitachi 1500ansi projector for months without any problems. Cost £235 from ebuyer now you can get a 2000 ansi (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/138928)for the same price.

People forget that a few years ago a 1000 ansi projector cost nearly £1000 and was top of the range, and would have been considered more than suitable for the job.

I agree.

I have 3 projectors and all do a decent job of what I need them for, and they were all under £250.

It's almost as cheap to buy another one instead of a spare lamp. (So I did!)

Maybe you know a tad more on this subject than i do but i've always found it too expensive to go in too. may look into it again now then:rolleyes:.

How do you connect them to your rig? what stands and screens do you use?

You don't need software and a PC either.. you can just plug a normal Karaoke player into a projector. OH and those pull-up 60" screens are about £60-70 brand new.
