but the age range is a bit of pain
anything between 17-18 and 70-80 and it's only a 2hr slot what can i play that all age ranges can relate to.

Not a single thing :D
You can play a range of stuff over the two hours that will cover all bases, but the chances of striking a rich seam of music that the 70/80 year olds will enjoy that will also appeal to the 17/18 year olds? Has 50 Cent done a cover of 'Love Letters in the Sand'?

I reckon you're going to struggle to keep everyone happy all night. Send a playlist request sheet out and see what comes back. In all fairness, most wedding receptions can have similar age groups. I would tend to do a wedding-y set really - very mainstream and a little cheesy.
I doubt the 70-80 year olds will be boogeying all night, maybe some 50's/60's early on and then up the beat when the younger end of the crowd have had a few drinks.
Just my opinion - but with 15 months to go - you've got plenty of time yet.

I would suggests some 60's to begin with then moving through 70's 80's couple modern pop and then cheese to finish off.
I think the thing against you is time as there is a lot to cover in 2 hours.
With everything though 'reading the crowd' will guide you better than anything - just think most weddings will cover this age range !

This is not a typical Wedding crowd for me--where the bulk of the dancers are 30,40,50.60 and you can easily get em going.
Sadly could be difficult to handle with any success--
My only suggestion is to have very clearly defined sessions for each age range.

That's ageist!
I usually find music trancends age. At the pub I play about once a month the 60 / 70 year old ladies request and dance to Sugababes, Nelly, Shakira, Abba and a wide range of disco as well as 60's, reggae and soul.
