Please put your name and the area you can cover - it doesn't have to be at every venue, just the one's you feel you know enough about or work regularly at.

Any venues are fine, Hotel, golf club, village hall, social club, pub, function room etc

Count me in. Rather than select an area, though, would it not be a good idea for each forum member (who wants to help) to submit details for the venues they know well or have worked at recently and then just submit details for new venues as and when we've worked in them? If anyone uses a comprehensive booking system like the one we use then most people should already have a great deal of information already available.

Just my opinion. If not, I can cover venues in Sunderland, Durham, Washington, Gateshead and parts of Newcastle.

I could help with Northants --so could Spin I guess.

I travel extensively so would be happy to give info over East Anglia, Midlands, Home Counties, South East, and towards South West.

It would be a question of going through my gig records and also remembering the features of each venue.

Just a quick thought from an ethical (and possibly legal) point of view. Would we need the venues owners consent to publish these details on the web? I know it could be good for their business but it may still be an idea to ask first.

Never mind agencies--its the general public who would be the real problem.

Compensation seekers---also venues complaining we are losing them business over sound limiters etc.

Seriously though, I do see your point which is why I am unsure at the moment. There is a lot of undercutting etc in this area as it is and I know I have a few venues without which I would really struggle.

PS This would mean me keeping my sensible daytime job longer than planned   :D :D

I hadnt considered this.

When I mentioned that this facility would be useful--I did not expect anything except access, sound limiters, and other bad features which might make you consider higher prices or not playing the venue.

I dont personally think contact details are needed--as we do all have the Internet.

There are already lists of venues, just not with the details that us DJs need. Anyone can ring a venue at any time and try to get business and I'm sure this happens all the time. That's business and I'm sure if you look after your clients, they won't go elsewhere.

You mean you'd be worried about losing,Ramside hall hotel, the Marriott hotel, Lumley castle, and Beamish hall.

How does Axeman get bookings at the Ramside? The only disco company that you can have there is the resident disco which is Starlite. This is detailed in the venues own wedding brochure and I quote:

"£175.00 Hotel Resident Disco – Starlite. DJ. We do not allow the use of any DJ except the resident DJ appointed via Ramside Estates."

My brother was suprised to find this out last month when he tried to book this venue for his wedding. He went through the whole process of choosing a wedding package for the reception and, for everything they wanted, the price worked out at around £10,000. "Fair enough", said brother, "what time would our disco be able to set up on the day?". "Oh", said venue, "the price includes disco so there's no need for that worry". "But I want to book my own disco" said brother. "Well you can't" said venue, "You have to use our resident disco.". "Bye Bye" said brother.

I wondered why, although I'm only 5mins from the Ramside, that I've never had any bookings there. Now I know. Never been to Lumley Castle, either, but that's never bothered me.

I have worked at Marriott Hotels in several areas and I'm pretty regular at Beamish Hall cos I love driving through narrow country lanes in the dark! That's why I love doing Durham Amateur Rowing Club so much! (No I really enjoy it there cos it's always a great atmosphere!)

I agree with Alan. Daz said he'd have a think about how he was going to work this. Putting the whole thing together is quite a complex task as it's potentially a huge database.

OK :D

Better add The George Hotel, Lichfield to the Venue Database then. You have to park your vehicle at the rear gates, take your equipment across a courtyard, go down a corridor (through 2 unwedged doors), into a small lift, out of the lift, following the landing round to the Suite's door (and then set-up on a temporary dancefloor as a deckstand with over head bar will not fit in between the 2 pillars.

I have a photo of the set-up location on my website (It's the 2nd picture on the home page)

You can add Chigwell Police Club.

Park outside, through two sets of double doors (non automatic), then up two flights of stairs which curve round (no lift), through a single width door into the room.

This is to compile a venue database. i.e. the Good Points and Bad Points about a venue so we can all refer to it, before we do the gig, so we have an idea of what to expect when we get there.

That's right isn't it???

If you need someone to review a wide range of venues in central lancashire then I'm happy to help. I have done a very large number. I assume you are looking for:-

-Size of room recommended PA size / lighting / etc.
-Access (many steps and wheeled flight cases - Hmmmm)
-Quality of staff - nothing worse than being left to it whilst the staff scratch their bottoms, forget to tell you buffet is out, etc.
-Any sound restrictions like a rev limiter or previous enforcement action on noise abatement orders.
- Any install lighting etc and whether it works or is just useless.

If thats what you want them I'm in.

I also think I keep finding threads from a couple of months ago and replying. I'm new here, so please be gentle.

Noted! Is "this venue is a pleasure to play" kind of thing OK?

I have added a few for Welsh venues - West Country to follow as I expand. (Business, not waist size.)

ALSO - is there any facility to edit our original review posting after submission. Just I noticed I recently rather stupidly hit "submit" before adjusting the town from the default ("Abbots Langly?), even tho' the address was correct inthe address BOX. Likewise, I as ever cringe at my typos.

At the moment no. If any changes are required you'll need to PM one of the admin. As for stupidly hitting submit before changing the town, I've done that three times now too. At the moment the town field is not editable once the venue listing is submitted, that'll be rectified over the weekend so an admin can change it if it's wrong.

Just noticed an error with one of my submissions.

I did a report for the Royal British Legion Club in Ripley, Surrey...but the database has taken it to be Ripley in Derbyshire, so has put it into the East Midlands section!

It obviously doesn't know there's also another Ripley (near Woking) in Surrey.

The easiest thing might be for a mod to delete this listing, then let me know & I'll re-submit under Ripley, WOKING, Surrey.

Didnt have time to trawl whole thread but have some basic details for some of my local venue's. As follows

Hunrgy horse sixfields northampton

Family resuraunt and pub, Good access pleanty of power points good friendly staff. Normal load in is about 10 meters from car park to door and same agin to usual setup point. Space is cramped no space for subs so just 2 tops are required. I can just squeeze a 4ft giraffe stand with 4 ft overhead on top maybe 4 lights maximum in this venue.

Towcester racecourse Towcester Northants

Plenty of power sockets available although may be advantagouse to take longer extenstion cables depending where in room you setup. Venue is large can seat up to 400 people I think it is. Access is poor due to all function rooms are usually 1st floor. Lifts are available but with a long carry in. Would recomend a trolley and a roadie if you play here. Staff are curtious and you can normally get access early if required. P.A.T and PLI are required for this venue without fail.

Wootton Sports and social club Northampton

A nice modern venue but access is either great or poor depending on what staff are on when you arrive. Some staff have the key for an alarmed fire door to allow access in which case its straight into room and very easy. However if one of these members are not on you will have to take through the building which is rather long with 3 sets of double doors. And parking is not next to door either. Plenty of power sockets and up to now have allowed smoke machines in moderation. Staff are nice and sometimes allow early setup.

hope these help you. Will try to post more when have the time.

Apologies if in wrong place just trying to help.

Ok ....got 10 mins.....so make a start for Yorkshire....more to follow

The Midland Club Royston ....My first set up is here permanently. It makes the club in Phoenix Nights look progressive....A cut back to the 50's.No entertainment apart from Pidgeon nights once a year....until I moved my business there. Now it has a regular Sunday Evening quiz night and a plethora of varied Parties which I have bought to the club.

The Committee are very old fashioned but trying. For all its faults you can raise a fantastic evenings entertainment there.Maybe its the surprise element or the fact that John Smiths is £1.80 a pint....all the time.It is a very easy carry....15 yards.

Prove me wrong.....I don't think anyone else will get any business there....it took them 35 years to accept me....(and even then not all of the committee like me....but whats new).

Benefitting from other Pubs and Clubs closing in the viscinity.

More to follow.....but for now Yorkshire 1.....ok!!

Nope. Absolutely not.

This is not the place to submit.

We had a refurb recently and have a database with forms to fill in which has been well publicised.

Go to your DJ login and have a look.

Thanks.

I need a lie down.

I am closing this thread before anyone else comes along and posts anything about a venue...
