I'm just starting to change my karaoke back to the old fashioned way of doing thing thanks to the ProDub:mad:

So now i will be running it through the old karaoke machine and using CD+G as before but i have found a problem. My karaoke machine has 1 scart socket on the back but i would like to keep using my TFT Monitor instead of carrying the old bulky TV and stand about.

So basically i need a way of converting a scart signal into a VGA signal.

Is this possible? whats the cheapest way of doing this?

Thanks in advance for all the help

Is VGA the only input on your monitor? My monitor has a an S-Video socket also (along with other connections) and I bought a little box from PC World which is simply a 3-way scart switcher but also has phono, S-Video and scart outputs/inputs.

As for a scart to VGA, I've never seen one but then again I haven't looked. I'll keep my eyes peeled though.

EDIT:

Eyes been peeled - try this!

THat was the first one I found from a "scart to VGA" search on google

Very Interesting but found this under customer reviews:

be warned this doesnt connect dvd/vcr players to your computer screen, you need to get a ((Gadmei TV5830 XGA/VGA LCD TV BOX With Build In FM + Play Video Games On Crt & TFT Monitors)on amazon)or other types to make that work

Bargain! Even if you need the male-to-male D-Connector converter it's still a good deal!

That just doesn't make sense. For the simple task of converting a connector why would you need FM radio and all the other bits mentioned? This sounds a bit like overkill to me. Maybe it's a post from the company that makes the unit mentioned?

EDIT:

Then again, I suppose your VGA monitor uses a different resolution (no of scan lines, etc) than your PAL/NTSC karaoke player so the output signal would need converting. Maybe that's what these units do (and why they are so expensive!)

For £3 though i'd say its worth a try surely. youve got nowt to lose really.

It does kind of make scene as the signal would need converting to be able to display on the TFT.

Without converting the signal all i would get is fuzzy lines and background noise. So has anyone any idea where i can get one of these converter things from?

And more importantly how much?

Not sure if this will do it...

I don't pretend to understand the technology behind these things, but in my other life I've been forced to use them many times over the years and IMHO only the most expensive boxes of tricks do a good enough job to produce a rock-steady image which is what I expect you're hoping to achieve.

Find a supplier that provides gear for conferences or exhibitions and you'll find a suitable unit, but expect to shell out a few hundreds for a good one.

Or upgrade your ProDub - probably cheaper :o

Thought you may have cracked it then until i read this:

Not suitable for monitors designed solely for computer use

Your probably right. may just be cheaper to buy a new LCD TV which has a scart input built in to it. Not what i was hoping for:(

Looks like I'll be carrying around the old "portable" TV then:bang:

Check CPC, I'm sure they do them.

Are you talking about converters or LCD TV's?

Thanks for that VV. Interesting Reading.

Found the following at the bottom of the page:

PC Monitors, Data Projectors and TFT Screens.

PC monitors Data Projectors and TFT Screens typically have a line frequency requirement starting from 30kHz, which is higher that TV line frequencies. Therefore, the RGB to Plasma VGA unit is not compatible with these monitors as they are design only to be used with PCs.

Looks like it's just not meant to be:bang: :bang: :bang:
