Hi all, long time since I have been here, so long that I had to register again!
Can anybody advise on what I need to do to convert the 2 pin plugs on my new dennon mixers to 3 pin. I don't really want to cut off the plugs and replace with three pin if there is a simple plug in adapter I could get.
Thanks a lot
Sarah

You have to be careful with the adaptors, as some of them don't connect the earth pin and therefore won't pass a PAT test. For the 2 mins it takes to stick a 13A plug on, I'd just do that!

Is the lead hardwired in to the Denon or is it an IEC fitting?
If its HW I would definitely cut of the plug and fit a UK one or if IEC simply buy another one with right plug and fuse fitted. :)

They are hardwired unfortunately, I will have to cut them off and replace with 3 pin but before I do I will buy an adaptor just to try them out to see if they are working properly, won't be able to send them back if I have been chopping up the leads!
My poor son is itching to use them, now he has to wait yet another day!! It's agony for him!!!

Is it not illegal to sell any appliance in the UK without the proper lead and plug if it is hardwired into the unit???

I'm guessing they weren't bought from the UK.
Actually, I just remembered, my Denon mixer came from the UK and has a 2 pin plug encapsulated in a 3-pin adaptor, they probably do this to keep costs down so the same run can be sold in both the UK and Continental Europe.

Ive had a mixer like this aswell. You couldnt actually take off the 3 pin adapter either. Some funny flatyhead screw that was tapered so you couldnt unscrew it.

Make 100000000000% certain that they are set for 240v mains... the Yanks only use a piddling 110v..
If they are set to 110v there will be a bloomin big bang:eek:

Guessing these plugs have flat pins as opposed to round Euro ones?

What about using one of these adaptors - the ones which fully encapsulate the 2 pin plug, rather than it just plugging together (and a less than reliable connection)

I am never happy with adaptors as they can sometimes slip out.
Bought a 6 way spotlight from Maplin and all the lights have 2 pin fittings and they are always dropping out !

I got one of those enclosed adapters with my peavey amp, threw it straight in the bin as it didn't seem to make a proper connection and kept coming apart, so now use a sealed UK plug IEC lead and use the original with new plug fitted as a spare

first of all like mentioned in earlyer posts, make sure the mixer(s) are set on 240v.

Dont worry I won't go bang :)
They are 240v and have Euro plugs on, I checked this when I odered them and checked them again when they arrived yesterday.

Strange, my Peavey Amp lead has been perfect for years and always passes the MOT---sorry PAT test:D
