Thought I would download this onto my new Laptop with Vista.

Appears to be getting blocked:bang:

Anyone have any suggestions other than taking the Firewall off:eek:

Thanks in advance ;)

I notice Vista is also blocking some basic attachments being sent to me:(

Go into the firewall and allow it through. :) Just add a program (In this case Skype)

YES I looked at that but theres a problem.

You dont appear to be able to just add any old program you name.

It appears to have to be ALREADY ON THE COMPUTER

There is no facility THAT I CAN SEE to type in the words Skype.

If you have Vista can you talk me through the procedure?

thanks

File,
Control Panel,
Windows Fire Wall,
'Allow a program through windows fire wall' (This is at the top left),
At the bottom of the window on the left it should say 'Add program...',
Click 'Browse' then look for Skype.
Click Ok and Bobs your uncle and Betty's you aunt!

Should fix it.

I cant find Skype there--can you?

If so where is it--there appears to be a long list of programs but I cant see skype?

There is no search facility for Internet website downloads that I can see?

THANKS

I dont have any skype files on the Laptop:D

Think I have solved it.

Basically its not compatible----

My other laptop has XP so ill be using that instead:D

See this I just got from a chat line from Skype users :bang: :bang: :bang:

Unfortunately, it may very well crash the computer. I have been trying to use Skype with Vista Home Premium, the commercial release, and it consistently causes a blue-screen crash on my system. The problem may not be with Skype itself, but it is definitely a problem. My configuration:

Fujitsu Lifebook S6120
Windows Vista Home Premium
(Clean install, NOT installed on top of XP)
Skype 3.0.216
Logitech Quickcam Ultra Vision
Quickcam Software version 10.5

Attempting to use the camera and the microphone in it with Skype causes a blue-screen crash of Vista. I have used exactly this setup for months with Windows XP, with no problem.

I found a posting that said the problem was with Automatic Gain Control (AGC), and included instructions on how to disable that in the .xml files. If I do that, and then don't attempt to use the camera, Skype works on Vista. But if I turn on the camera, Skype starts to go crazy after about 15 seconds, the person on the other end gets double or triple echos of my sound, and eventually the whole thing crashes.

I just downloaded 3.0.217, but haven't tried it yet, at the moment I have gone back to my XP disk.

I wont be risking a crash!!!!!!!

From what I've seen and read the Skype software installation can be a bit "hit and miss" so the result someone else gets may not be the same result that you get.

I've never tried installing the PC software because I get free Skype from topping up my 3 mobile broadband and I've got the 3 Skype phone so it's just a case of swapping the sim card from broadband dongle to mobile phone and back again.

But if you can get it work on your PC it's very good value at only £2.50 per month for unlimited calls to landlines and other Skype users. I've used Jubii in the past to get free calls and this (when it works!) seems a pretty good service.

Sure thing. Anytime today or after 1PM on Sunday. :)

I found that Avast! has looked for viruses better than AVG and properly gets rid of them. Doesn't store them in a vault.

im using AVG 8.0

The problem was upgrading AVG 7 to 8.

Fatal error.

It thought standard internet files on my computer were viruses and destroyed them:bang: :bang: :bang: along with a load of other peoples.

Some numpty at AVG got the program wrong:eek:

I imagine downloading a new version 8.00 is fine---

Ill be using something different even if its not free;)
