View Full Version : How much weight?

Odd question, how much weight will a top hat take on a bass bin?
I know this will depend on the speaker but I would like to mount a NJD datamoon above my top speakers using the Ultimax Atlas bracket.
My top speakers currently weight about 27kg and with the NJD breaking the scales at about 10kg, that’s a lot of weight in the air!

Please let me know your thoughts.

depends on your speaker poles,

i think they should be able to cope with an NJD datamoon and the bracket..

You'd need to refer to the manual for the bass bins and the poles you're using.

Don't forget to add the weight of the Atlas itself...

depends if the top hat in the bin is plastic or alloy

worst case senario if too heavey pole will go through top hat to speaker base then you need a longer pole

... assuming there's nothing physical inbetween the base of the top hat socket and the base of the sub. Like a big speaker for instance :o

I wouldn't think weight would be much of a problem , I would say stability is the main concern.

use an light weight led effect instead of the datamoon

Its the same as the speakers amps crossover discussion--

if you buy matched units as VV says you cant go wrong.

Im not sure I could easily lift 27kgs high in the air, or even higher at the end of the evening to get them down.

Stands by for body builders from Yorkshire to complain:)

VV I like your banner--might I suggest you might use --A Unique Entertainment Experience---like my good self-- :D

LMAO :D

Yea good idea but unfortunately the only LED lights I have are Uplighters, the rest are big heavy things.
I would put them on the main rig but I am limited to the weight it can support.

I have been thinking of a plan B and C.
Plan B: get a beefier goalpost stand
Plan C: I have a pair of Ultimax speaker stands and I know they will take about 40kg so I hide the bins elsewere

Maybe this is an omen to get some movers I can stick on the floor!!

The vibration from a speaker may adversely effect the life of the lamp in your effect as well.

also movers on the floor are not a good idea either, they get kicked and young children just love to put their hands in them! They also make a rather expensive coat/handbag stand

I've used mine on the floor loads of times and never had that problem.

Predictable....

Moving heads are made to sit on the floor or speakers.

If appropriate safety measures are taken and a bit of common sense is used, then you'll be fine.

There are people out there who use spotbanks still with red hot lamps that kids can touch. Do you consider that safe?
