I’ve got a couple of NJD painted speakers and they look a bit tatty so I’ve been thinking of repainting them.
Does anyone know the paint best to use and where to get it from, currently the finish is textured matt black?

Thanks
Adam

I could if I was any good at laying carpet.

On a slightly different note, does any one know where I can get sub covers from? I can find plenty of covers for tops, hopefully I could then keep the speakers looking good for a bit longer.

Name me one make of professional speakers* whom covers their boxes in carpet, Nigel.

(*other than Nexo Alpha, which is a very old design and AFAIK carpet finish is still available as an option)

I would highly recommend Alco Leather, PM me if you want their details. They make bespoke padded covers, we had some made for our Q-SUBs a couple of months ago, excellent quality & good service.

Ouch!

Can't beat a rub-down feathering of the scuffed area, good quality dark undercoat and a matt black solvent-based paint.

Or, if you can't be bothered, a permanent black marker pen :p

Digressing slightly, don't you think that Nigeltronic contraption in your avatar looks uncannily similar to the one bolted to the outside of my office?

That’s as bad as buying a turbo badge and a spoiler for a nova!

PS: I’ve got some paint on order thanks for your help. :beer1:

I have a set of Yamaha's that came carpet covered brand new 4 months ago, does that count as professional?

Keep a duster and some chalk handy, then people can write their requests on the speakers:p:D:D:D:D:D
Hammerite will dry OK, eventually, but really isn't good on wood. For a quick job, a tin of emulsion will do quite well.

There's an element of snobbery of sorts going on, in the best possible taste of course:D

There's the association with seeing gawd awful tatty speakers with carpet hanging off them, people think of that as soon as carpet is mentioned.

There's also confusing carpet covering with fabric convering. The Yamaha's will not be covered in carpet!
Not the type you'll find on a floor anyway. It will be a densely woven fabric with a similar texture to carpet, but specifically designed for gluing to surfaces such as speaker boxes.
It will also be very hard waring and hence expensive. It won't be £2.99 sqm from the local Capet Right. More like £10+ sqm.

Hi Simon,

Honestly wasn't showing off with the Yammy's, if they were Bose drainpipes then maybe, ;)

I think your correct, the Yammy's are certainly not covered with end of roll cord!!

I would have bought more budget speakers if it wasn't for Simon at DJ Supplies who convinced me how important sound quality is, he didn't mention the quality carpet covering ;). That said, we bought 2 pairs and love them!!

I use Ronseal MDF and Melamine paint. B& Q stock it. Expensive. :( :(
