Hi.

Well basically i use a laptop with an external hard drive USB & also i use a USB 5.1 Sound Card.

i have narrowed it down from coming from the channels from the laptop in the mixer

i just don;t no what it is making this noise.

But when i connected my Extra monitor the noise stopped all night..
But when its not plug ed in i get the cracking noise

could to be an earthing problem from the laptops port's

Any Ideas

Sounds like it. I had the same problem, got a ground loop isolator and never had the problem since.

that's just gonna stop the noise not the problem.

but might still get one

would the £12 one do the job??

Unplug the mains from the laptop and see if it still has the same problem.

In which case get yourself some ground loop isolators, which, as already been mentioned, will stop the problem.

I'm not quite sure where the extra monitor comes into play though.

we had a dell d600 used to do the same thing, unplugged the 3 pin cloverleaf cable from the power supply and replaced it with fig 8 lead, problem gone.
did also try a ground loop isol did'nt help.

Probably coz the monitor will be earthed and earths your audio too.
Personally I think you need to add an earth not isolate it.

I always have one earth on my system and that is at the amp end.
I connect audio ground to earth at the amp and nowhere else to eliminate earth loops.

yes but where is the earth point on the laptop??

i think its the earth as well

The figure of 8 replaces the clover leaf one in the mains adaptor. It simply unplugs. The missing pin is the earth, thus breaking the loop.

...that's the whole point, a laptop dosen't have an earth point but the power supply does, this is why when you connect an audio signal to it when it's on power it get's noisy...

..there is a floating earth so the low level audio signal lead picks up noise from the power supply.

That's my understanding of it anyway...:)

Just buy ground loop isolators.

At the risk of finding you've got a completely different one-
Your lappy power lead starts at a 13a mains plug. The cable runs to a box, with hopefully a clover leaf input. This is a transformer, turning 240vac into a few volts dc. a cable from the other side plugs into the laptop.

Try following the cable from the 13a plug to the box, it should have a plug. Try wiggling the plug, and it should come out. You can replace it with a figure of 8. Hopefully. ;) :D

Just buy ground loop isolators.
An equally viable option.

......if no plug then wriggle the wire till it snaps and then buy a ground loop isolator and a new power supply! :D

...or you could do the proper thing and buy a rack mount desktop PC for your playout like real men have! :D :D

I beg to differ. You need one on each channel.

Don't you use a soundcard then?

Yes I did, but I only needed/wanted/used one channel, as an adjunct to the Cortex. I used Media Monkey as my playout software, you can't expect an old man like me to be a laptop DJ surely? Even I have some standards. ;)

Really? I thought you used Class D? :boxer2:

I'm not sure what you mean in the above statement. Do you not use 2 channels on your mixer?

Jealousy is so pitiful Darren. If you want to hear them just ask. I'll bring you a hanky for when you realise how much better value they are than RCF. ;)

I'm not sure what you mean in the above statement. Do you not use 2 channels on your mixer?

Two? Can you get mixers with two channels?

Right, I'll type this slowly for you, so you can understand. When I went digital, the intention was Cortex channels 1 and 2, MD channel 3, and CD channel 4. Laptop as database/inspiration only. However, having used Media Monkey for ripping, I realised that it was an excellent programme ( which only has ONE output channel) , and would be a superb playout for channel 3, and used a combined MD/CD player for channerl 4.
I then took advice on here as to which soundcard to buy, and after a glowing report from you of the Maya, I purchased one. Big mistake. :bang: :bang: They're incompatible. :bang: Had to sell it to Tone, and replace it with the Soundblaster which is excellent for me.

Then, after an exasperating experience with Kam Customer Service ( I think they're in breach of the Trades Descriptions. ;) There's no service. ) I got a second Cortex, so Cortex channel 1 and 2, other Cortex channel 3 and 4, with an external USB DVD drive connected to it for playing customer CD's. The lappy is now as intended database/inspiration. The soundcard is now in residence at home, on the desktop.
I may still yet rig the lappy up to channel 8 on the switch, just cos I can.

Oh my :Censored: God, please tell me your not serious and are having a laugh.

If you use just a laptop via the headphone socket you only need one isolator.

Surely the stereo zero volts is taken care of by being a common zero volts at the laptop ?

Even if not at the laptop the mixer will have a common zero volt line to both channels. I have yet to see a mixer with dual power supplies for stereo.

I reckon he just needs one.

Rowleys

Please read the thread...

I use a USB sound Card 5.1 with a 2 channel out put the the mixer

Using virtual DJ

Deck 1 = Channel 1
Deck 2 = Channel 2

In that case, yes, buy 2 of them. Do not under any circumstances cut off a plug.

Right, I'll type this slowly for you, so you can understand.

And I'll type this slowly...Don't bother answering next time if you are going to be so patronising.
