Hello
Am new to the game so just got my first start up gear to get some expereince.I have a PROSOUND 1600 amp(which i have read bad reviews about but doesn't bother me)
,a Numark CD/MIX 1 deck & a pair of Intimidator AKA 215 500 WATT RMS(each) speakers.

I am trying to connect things the right way but have never done it before & because i bought the components separately,i need to buy xlr cables so could some advise me please.

I have all the speakon cables for the speakers but i need to know how many XLR cables i need to connect the Numark CD/MIX 1 to my Prosound amp,
i have seen at the back of the cd/mix there is balanced master output 1 & 2 & the amp too has balanced input 1& 2,
do i need to use 2 xlr cables to run from the cd/mix to amp or it's just 1 xlr from either balanced output 1 to balanced input 1?

I will greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanx

your local DJ Store in Cheltenham should be able to advise you :)

Theyll also be able to sell you a decent amp

Theyll also be able to sell you a decent amp:) I got the two XLR cables in my local Gloucester music store but imagine after all the excitement,i just realised the speakon cables i was told were free by the seller of the speakers i ordered weren't in the consignment i received after all so i still cannot play my machine until tomorrow when i receive the speakon cables but the consolation is that instead of the 500 watt RMS i initially ordered,i got upgraded ones(600 watts rms) for the same price so i'll relax for now!:beer1:

 I think i really need to get a back up amp just in case the now 'infamous' PROSOUND amp will most likely disappoint me in the near future.

Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm, but assuming all things even and that the efficiency of the 600w cabs is the same as the 500w cabs you were due to get, the extra 100w power handling will give you no more than a 0.6dB increase in volume, which is inaudiable.

Additionally, the Pr0sound 1600 amplifier you mention is only rated 500wrms/ch @ 4r and 250wrms/ch @ 8r, hence will be underpowered for your speakers.

Ain't that the truth? :D How long before the OP asks for recomendations for a budget amp giving 500w/ch at 8ohms?

I'll get in early.

What store in gloucester did you use?I think it's called Remus Sound,it's on Barton Street Gloucester,i usually buy my guitars & other accessories from there. There is also another guy who is just about to close his business on London Road Gloucester,he is Barry & runs Barrys Disco Centre right opposite the Stagecoach bus garage,he wants to operate from home.

yeah barrys disco centre is all but gone now, its been him working on his own now for a while anyway

you should visit the only other DJ store in the area which is in Cheltenham, remus will be able to sell you the odd cable or so, but they are a music shop at the end of the day
