Do you buy the cheapest cables available? Do you swear by a certain brand? Personally I've always kind of gone for mid-range. Just thought I'd find out others train of thought when buying cables.

I buy quality cables for those that I think will really will make a difference. For instance, I bought a DMX cable not long back which I knew was a proper DMX cable and not a mic cable being parsed off as one.

Other leads such as power is not as important to buy 'quality' as such, but I guess there will always be an advantage of using proper quality cable.

quality all the way my friend! Be it audio, dmx lighting cable or power cables you dont want a poor quality cable ruining your show.

Naturally as long as its passed the lastest PAT test you should be ok!

I tend to use mid-range (or sometimes a bit higher) cables like you, except for my spares...which are mostly ebay jobs.

Mid to high range when budget allows. I used cheap and the quility on audio was poor and 'stiff' cable tends to kink more. I use van damme cables now with real neutrik connectors. Much nicer. I did manage to buy a large amount of silver ofc cable from halfords when they were having a clear out. It made great mic and dmx cables.

I use mid to high range cables. Yes I have noticed a difference, especially on the cables you unplug all the time. Cheaper ones tend to split by the plug easily.

It always amazes me when people go on about starting off in disco world, list a load of kit they are going to get yet never factor in cable cost. It is surprising how much cables (and cases for equipment for that matter) actually cost, and personally think you need at least 1 of every cable as a spare.

Top of the range cables = Van Damme
Middle of the range = Proel Livewire

I bought 4 of these due to the fact I've gone active and needed to replace speakons.

I've always used Proels Die Hard Gold line cables for all my audio stuff, which is good quality, and just recently, moved across to QED Audio 2's for my gig box, which retail at £30 for a 1m RCA to RCA cable!

Decent stuff for audio, cheap stuff for DMX.

Same here, with Neutrik connectors throughout.

Always spend good money on cables, as the quality products do last longer. I remember using Skytronic signal cable for video signal a few years back, lasted for a handful of events before it developed a crack in the cable and stopped working.

At the end of the day, the gear is only as good as the cables connecting it.

Makes me laugh when people spend a fortune on home entertainment equipment then go to Wilko's and buy bell wire to use as speaker cable.

I get my cables from here: http://www.audiospares.com/ They do some really cheap ones and some expensive ones with Neutrik connectors.

I tend to use the Pro Signal brand from CPC and apart from being remarkably cheap, they're quite resilient and well put together.

Audiospares are good. Also check out

Ive just noticed one of my audio cables was dodgy so one of my RCF speakers was dropping in sound. I have been using Proel Livewire cables.

So im now looking for 4x new cables. Was going to get Van Damme or still might. But would be interested in more information on those Proel Die hard cables.

Oh, it was titled "cable quality" and since I have come accross some :Censored: cables with good connectors before I just went from there:D
I make my own from quality cable and quality neutrik (usually) connectors.
