....not for me - for a friend.

Requirements are an all in one system preferably, £250 or under  , and it is for a school PTA to use for quiz nights and speeches, so doesn't need to be overly powerful.

Only needs a couple of channels, a mic and a line.

Pardon me for being dim, but are they buying, or hiring?

Sorry, buying.

They have been hiring off me. ;)

Insert sarcastic comment of your choice here. ;)

I know how popular this shop is on here, but with only a Mic to add, this might be close? I believe one Mr Brown is seeking a system like this, but I can't see him stooping to shopping there. ;)

Wouldn't you also need a mixer though? I'm not terribly up on these active jobbies :( :o That might stretch the budget a tad. ;)

On the back there will be mic input, line input and then also a through output which you can simply link into the other speaker.

I suppose it's how much they are going to use the speakers and if they absolutley need a mixer.

Ah. I bow to your superior knowledge then. :o :o :D

The skytec actives range also have mic and line input directly into the speaker with 2 band eq. Aslong as you dont want the full range of features a mixer has then your laughing.

One 300w (or get a couple and link them) one should do the job. Ive used like this before to help out a B&G at short notice with background music and a mic for speackes. dead simple to set up and use that way :)

And the cost of the tripods and mic too.

I would suggest either the Peavey Performance pack on special at Electromarket for £199.74 http://www.electromarket.co.uk/products.asp?partno=PERFORMER or if a bit more power needed, the Studiomaster Runabout from Soundsavers http://www.soundsavers.com/catalog/pa-systems-17/studiomaster-runabout-200-watt-portable-compact-pa-system-3857.html at £239.99

http://imusician.co.uk/acatalog/info_00042829.html a little bit over budget but sound quite good for what it is. also i belive prosound do a copy of it for around 250

And another, according to the catalogue it comes with two microphones, so only needs tripods. Could all come in under budget by a whisker.

Wouldn't touch that Kustom stuff with a barge pole. Poor quality. Very very bad sound.

Thanks everyone for all the links - the Peavey Escort is what I recommended originally, after the Yamaha Stagepas 300, but both have gone up in price. I will send him the links for all other suggestions.

Has anyone any experience or heard what you are linking to?

I've heard the Studiomaster Runabout used outside at a fayre and a camp fire (can be run from a 12v car battery). It sounded okay for speech and would probably be okay for say a music round at a quiz but it does lack bass. Maybe not so bad for indoor use.

Peavey Performance Pack sounds better, fuller sound with better bottom end (was surprised at the sound considering they are 10"). Have heard it used for an extension to the main system in a second room and they were okay but would get drowned out in a large room with a noisy crowd.

I use a Mackie SRM150.

has a 3 channel mixer built in, with individual controls, Eq, 2 mic inputs, 1 phono, a Main in and a Thru, switchable for Line & Mic.

These are much much louder than you think.

Link that to a cheaper active speaker (under £100) and you could probably get both for under £200 if you shop around.

I'm guessing, (and it's only a guess,) but I've got a Prosound/Carlsbro mixer amp, and it could easily be the same. It's excellent unless you wind it up to the maximum. ;)

It's a shame, I have a Yamaha Stagepas 300 setup including the travelling case that I am just going to put on ebay. I would probably take around £250 for it but the shipping would probably break the budget.

Just out of interest I'll see how much it would cost to ship to the UK. If you know of anyone driving to the Perpignan area they could pick it up :)

It's for a school, not for me, so I assume they'd want an invoice.
