I have decided to give Karaoke a go , I often get asked for it.
The plan so far...

I have Karafun software ( freeware) http://www.karafun.com/, that seems to be ok , over the last few months I have brought from various sources about 140 sunfly discs , so far so good.

what monitor and how to mount it ? , which and how many microphones ( cordless) ?.
Downloaded a program that lists all the songs on the discs you own so you can print them out as a catalogue http://www.airwer.com/
any other advise would be great.
If I use Karaoke as a stand alone event ( no disco) what sort of ballpark figurer would I be looking at as far as prices go ?

Cheers

I'd say a minimum 19 inch monitor with some cheap vhf radio mics to start off, make sure you have a decent leaded mic for your announcements etc.
As you gain experience and maybe some residencies then you may want to upgrade to some more expensive better quality uhf mics once you know what sort of punters you are dealing with.
I have covered several friday nights for a mate who has some pretty poor mics, the locals don't seem to mind as they don't start singing till later on in the night when the beer is down them but I take my own corded mic as I have to sing the first 8-10 songs anyway.

If you're using software you can use a monitor rather than a tv which you can mount to one of these stands quite easily...

linkety link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Sheet-Music-Stand-Holder-with-adjustable-height_W0QQitemZ390038703208QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ MusicalInstr_Access_RL?hash=item390038703208&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18)

(you can get them cheaper than that if you look around).

As for charges, it's difficult to say what your ballpark should be. It can be anywhere from £80 to £150 we justify our cost by having a karaoke host who can really sing and entertain, a few lights and a bit of smoke, and having a laugh, sometimes having a few props such as elvis wigs, buddy holly glasses, etc. can go down well with the right crowd if you want to have a bit of a laugh.

Oh yeah microphones. We use wired PG58's, they're great quality, reasonably priced and being wired keeps your singers where you want them.

I know a karaoke jock who had 2 or 3 radio mics nicked, even though they're pretty useless to someone without a receiver...

one thing i would suggest that you make sure is that your powered mixer/mixer has effects on it --- otherwise even your better singers will sound pretty bad.
and the most important ting is HAVE FUN in my experiance the more fun i have the better the gig---------ENJOY

Get something like VocoPro for your effects. It's simple to use and works well.

Not necessarily. ;) I'm sure it's possible to link to some ( but not all ) other kit with a corresponding frequency.
