If you plug directly into the mixer is it OK?

Good question. It's possible that the connection between mixer and socket isn't earthed to the chassis of the connector. (I only said possible. ;) )
Try substituting wires, and do as Alchemy suggests.
Just want to check a few things.
You have put a xlr port/s on the rack case, which is made of wood and not metal?
Are all the connections wired up correctly?
Pin 1 = Ground/Shield
Pin 2 = Hot +
Pin 3 = Cold -
Also, if the leads are unbalanced, you need to bridge pins 1 and 3 together.
Have you sorted it out???

Hello everyone thanks for all your suggestions i have now earthed the flightcase and that removed about half the noise it is a wooden case with a very thin layer of ali it is a 5 star flight case however i also recently added a driverack px and discovered the gain on this was set too high which was making background noise sound much worse now i have adjusted that all seems ok.
I must say though the driverack has made a big improvement in my sound and i would def reccomend one i am runnig 1x mackie srs1500 sub ( been looking for another one forever no one seems to be selling any :( ) and 2x db opera 412 tops.

Do be careful. Wearing a chain around your ankle to earth yourself, and avoid electrostatic build up can have unfortunate connotations in certain quarters. ;) ;)

Hi Wayne,
I don't think anyone would usually earth a flight case.
Do you mean earth as in electric, or ground type earth?
I have never known this be done before.
