I did an 18th a few weeks back and a live band did a set during the evening. They'd bought along this light of there's which they said they picked up for a few quid on eBay and should really be ceiling mounted, but they just stuck it on the floor.

From what I could make out, it had a large Gas discharge lamp or similar in the middle, surrounded by 16 "Arms", each of which contained two servos, one controlling a mirror and the other moving a filter in and out of the path between the light and the mirror. The big ball of mirrors on the top rotates. I wish I'd taken a video of the end result, but basically the mirrors can either reflect the light onto the mirror ball or directly down (well, up as they had it).

Anyone have any idea what it is? It took three of them to carry back to their car!!

It's a Showtec Navigator I think, or possibly a 'Storm centrepiece', they look even better mounted vertically

It's the Navigator (as this is the only one out of the three with twin mirrors on each arm and the big mirror ball on the top, err bottom).

The guy in the band said he paid about £25 for it off eBay - not bad for 1,467 EUR fitting, even second hand!!

Thanks for your help,

Julian

depending on how old it is it could possibly also be a tas syncro-they were great lights back in the day, but very heavy.

If it has 2 mirrors per arm looking at the picture and the style of the centre mirrors it looks like a skytronic unit. If i remember rightly the Tas has alot of smaller dishes in the centre. I know a club that has two, they are very effective... wouldn't fancy it on a mobile though!
