Ive replaced the plugs on my Colourbursts, which are fitted with 3A fuses, with IEC connectors, with a view to daisy chaning the power, but..... what amp fuse do i need in the plug that goes in the wall?

Help much apprecated :)

Best bung in a 13amp one - save it blowing :sofa: :D :D

Hi Steve

Don't "just bung a 13amp" fuse in, unfortunately too many people whom know naff all about electricity take this approach and increase the risk of electric shock and fire in a fault condition.

To work out what fuse you should use, simply add up the wattage of the load and divide the total by 230 (let's use 230v to be safe, even though everywhere I've metered is closer to 250v)

For example, say your load total comes to 1,080w, then that will draw 4.7 amperes at 230v, therefore a 5amp fuse will be ideal.

Also, remember you don't have to step up from a 5a to a 13a - you can get 10a BS1362 fuses.

hope this helps

Tony

M6 bolts are the worst. The crazy thing is, the kind of people whom take these risks actually think it "clever" that they've overloaded a circuit.

Now im confused then Tone

Ive got 10 Colourbursts, each with a draw of 10w

Doin the maths.....(10x10)/230= 0.434783

can you get a less than 3A? or will 3A suffice?

The specs on the LEDJ colourbursts gives the power consumption at 10w.
So even daisy chaining 16 of them , its only 160w , so I would have thought that a 3a fuse was OK.
In theory you could run 325 of a 13a fuse

Just beat me to it :D

LED lighting has very small power consumption, so if they are 10w per unit then the maths looks good and 3a will be fine, Steve.

I'm not familiar with the unit, however if you are using them as uplighters and are daisy chaining the power cabling around a room/marquee, avoid leaving any spare connectors, otherwise you can guarantee some doughnut will stick one in the back of a kettle.

lol. Got it sorted, and dmx terminator just in case :)
