Hi,

with moving heads become increasingly cheaper with some units now between £300 and £400 I was wondering what people are opting for or even looking at currently.

I have looked at a couple of LED versions and am not convinced that the technology is there just yet. Whereas the 250w Hallogen types are still a prefered option at the moment it would seem.

So, can you please let me know which models are you looking at?

Thanks

Danno - Showtec Phantoms - I'd class those at the higher price bracket - but thanks.

For budget and effect, I bought the cheapy Isolution heads. I think I paid about a grand for 4 a couple of years ago. I think Thomann have them rebadged as Stairville too.

If you want to see them in action with haze, clicky. (http://www.solitaireentertainments.co.uk/2008%20Promo.wmv)

Seem a good purchase - I only need two.

To be honest it is a toss up between moving heads or a pair of scanners.

Seems the moving heads are in the lead at the moment...

Thanks

Yes CJ I did - lol :D

Very impressive Darren....

Don't know if the stairville version handles a C-8 controller as the acme version does...

Just noticed it does, but it's called a "Stairville Pocket Master"

I have these too. very pleased with them....don't rule out scanners though, you can get 4 for not much more than the cost of 2 moving heads.

I believe that 4 scanners look better than 2 moving heads any day! :)

I disagree. You don't get the 'visual' effect with a scanner. Just a mirror moving around.

Just think that 4 scanners give a bigger effect than 2 movers, especially if they are programmed right....however 4 movers are better than 4 scanners for the reason you've given, without question. :)

...........i will keep my scanners as well.

that's the option I use....both! :D

well do you spend £400 on a set of dynamo's or do you spend a £1000 on a set of moving heads....gulp!

are you guys saying these look pants in pairs?

Darren: regarding the promo video..are all the shots from the same function as it seems the first sequence you have the moving heads on the floor and in the last sequence it seems like that they are either switched off, or you have mounted them on the Top bar.

Or are they scanners on the top bar. Must get a new pair of glasses!

If your'e saying these look better in fours I might as well opt for scanners x 4.

Horses for courses?

...definately not, but 4 look much better.

....that was my point really, as an addition to a set-up a pair of movers is great but if you are looking for effects to become the core of your show then you need either 4 movers or 4 scanners to get the best impact. It depends on what you already have I guess?

If cost is an issue then 4 scanners would be a better option IMO, if money's not a problem the definately go for 4 movers :)

Only my opinions, I'm sure someone else will have a different view...:)

I'm looking at getting the Pearl River pilot 150's when I have the money, these look quite good from what I've seen, they've 150w discharge lamps in them too.

Anyone using these?

I've seen a set of 4 for £1500 new

I'm not so sure that I would want to have four moving heads in front of my stand so that some *TEXT REPLACED - CLICK HERE* (http://www.forum.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/showthread.php?t=12128) up idiot can fall over them and Im not so sure I can fit four of these on my 4ft goalpost...that's with other lights as well..lol

I think they are around £250 and £300 per light depending where you look.

I paid £1200 for my 4 (when they were quite new on the market) and got a CA-8 and 3 short mic leads free of charge. :D

i m thinking of buying four of those movers.

Would they be ok on two two bars? (2 on each t-bar)

and (in order to save money) can i just work them with a ca-8 controller (for now) so i dont have to go DMX, right away?

i m thinking that if i m going to spent 1200 on 4 dynamos and some 64 LED PARS, with flightcases, i might as well just get 4 moving heads (with arriba bags) and have a better lightshow?

what do u think?
