Simple answer. No.

There is a Martin controller a 2510 (or similar) on which you can download programmes to use with it, but nothing simple like a CA-8 type controller.

The EFX500 only has 2 non DMX modes. Auto and Sound to Light.

I use a Transcension Baby JC-1 and use it exactly for doing this.
Scene 1 - White Static - for quick speeches etc
Scene 2 - Slow Dance
etc etc

You can also access the bulit in macros via DMX which speed up programming.

If you have other DMX lights you'll find you can get them to work really well together with a bit of 'programming' ... it's not really programming, just set up a scene and press record. It takes a few hours in your garage / living room but the effort is worth it.

Let me know if you want to see a vid of some DMX'd lights in action inc the EFX500.

I need to find time to work on the footage I have gathered from my gigs and put something together. They are mainly 30 second clips of people dancing. I mainly work one venue so gig logs wouldn't prove that interesting (plus i am camera shy) and i don't need to do promos as my residency get me too much work anyhow.

Would they work with the old mc-1 controller? If so they can be picked up quite cheaply.

Do you have an Ultimax stand ?

i have the prolight deck stand

G-Clamp through the very top hole and hang it over the top bar of the stand. They are lightweight units and I find them very easy to rig on trussing using O-Clamps.

On the prolight deckstand DO NOT use the centre hole on the bracket when you fold it down and bolt it to the stand or the stand WILL go over as I have seen it happen but luckily the DJ was there to prevent this.

An EFX500 is 12Kg, that is hardly light weight!

I have an ultimax stand so I got them to make some custom clamps for me.

I reversed the bracket so that the flat plate was facing out and is above the swivel point. The unit mounts to the front of the truss, and is hung by 2 g-clamps fixed to the outside corner fixing points on the plate.

I can take a picture later.

When the unit swings down, as you will need to, to be able to get dance floor coverage, the centre of gravity centres nearer to the centre of the stand rather than front loaded.

Previously I fixed the units with 1 x clamp using the single top facing hole on the fixing plates and had now problems. I find now though that the units are about a foot higher on the stand, and they are quicker for me to put up.

In answer to your question about controllers there is MArtin Light Jockey but it does cost somewhere in the region of £750 unless you can pick up a good second hand one from generic auction sites on net.

That will work with the EFX-500 / 600/ 700 / 800

To hang an efx500 I took the back mounting bracket off mine and turned it round then i bolt two ultimax G Clamps on the back.

When you get the light the flat side will be on the inside.

Exactly what I was trying to say, using twice as many words.

well it is a DMX controller really, just a very good and expensive one at that and a bit much for just a efx500

i would go and find something like a 2510 and get it pre programmed.

I use a stairville dmx master to control mine and it does the job spot on.
