Anybody know why my email program, Microsoft Outlook cannot connect to server, ever since the new MDD site went active? I'm not alleging cause and effect, just asking for help.

Interesting......Outlook and IE don't connect with each other so I'm sure it's just coincidence.

Have you tried removing the settings and then adding again? Who are you with?

Orange nee Wanadoo nee Freeserve :D Outlook for the email, the full one, not Express. As far as I can see, the settings are right, but it's a long time since I plated with them, and I don't remember it all. :o

Have you checked the orange website to see if they have any outage?

No, and no. I can get round it by using Orange's own email program, it's something with not being able to find the server. I've known when it's had a wrong name in, but I can't remeber what it should be. :o

Thanks Marc. I've done something like this successfully before. Sadly not on this occasion. :(

Also, laptop is suffering from same problem. I'm baffled, though that means very little.

Do You have an MDD Email address then?

I don't like the fact that Outlook won't support Hotmail, yet they are both Part of Windows/MSN. It is extremely odd, that.

Yes it will but you have to pay something like $20 a year for the privilege of having POP details.

Get rid of Orange and use a proper ISP!

From what I can gather, a number of ISPs (including Vodaphone) have suffered outages recently. Maybe Orange is another one to add to the list.

Unfortunately, I haven't found out the reasons yet.

Anyone else got any input? Outlook still down, but I can get mail through Orange. Grrrrr. :bang:

Callum, there are times when you show an incisive grasp of the situation and a simple and effective solution to complex problems.

Sadly, this wasn't one of them. :bang: :bang:

I don't think the problem will be with Outlook but more to do with POP3 access to (or settings for) the problem email account. If so switching email clients is unlikely to help....might be worth a try though.

You've got to be on the right lines Marc, I'm sure, but:
The laptop on Vista/Windows Mail stopped receiving at the same time as the desktop XP/Outlook. Yes they're on the same account. Does that shed any light? :bang:

Hang on. The lappy's about to download 80 messages! Guess this means I'll have to set the desktop to the same settigs. Back round Xmas.
