Hi everyone can anyone tell me what these speakers are like please:)

Vectis

Fairly compact in size and weight given their contents. Carpet needs glue on a frighteningly regular basis. Odd shaped handles that some folks (OK, Rob) don't get along with.

But for the money, a really nicely balanced sound and they RUN QUITE LOUD if you want them to.

These were my staple speakers for about 2 years, happily running up to 150ish guests without subs (although subs help with a more 'rounded' sound).

A good buy for the money.

Hi everyone can anyone tell me what these speakers are like please:)

compared to those JBL JRX cabs that were going for a song on here a few days ago, the Peaveys sound horrible. IMHO. Some love them, some hate them, there's very few people standing on middle ground when it comes to P****y boxes.

Not necessarily. 4ohm cabs rated at around 500w RMS would be ideal. Oh look.

what for £250? i was always told that to get the best out of your amp & speakers the ohms need to match, was i told wrong then?

Short answer, yes.
Long answer, you don't match ohms in amp and speaker. You match the power output of the amp at each impedance to the power handling of the cabs.

Amp output of one and a half times the RMS rating of the cabs is widely regarded as a good ratio.

Thus, your amp gives 675w at 4 ohms, so a speaker of anything over 350w is fine.

so if get a set of 300w at 4ohms they will sound better than the 300w 8ohms ones am i right:confused:

No. They'll sound exactly the same. They should however sound louder. How much louder, well not twice as loud.

And your Warrior is approaching the limit of the power a pair of 4 ohm Peavey Pro's will stand. ;) Secondhand UL's will be head and shoulders better. In every respect.

New, no. This is the problem Russ was up against when he got the JBL's. Better cabs than the Peaveys, but not loud enough. :(

S/H UL's, Hysis 4 or 6 XT's best bet.

Or two pairs of these, new. :D

When you've stopped laughing and decided to be serious :)
Look at the sensitivity 103db, Grahame (soundshop) on a differnt forum uses loads of these as hire gear and swears by them !

An old guy that does a few gigs in my local rugby club uses a pair and have to be totally honest they sound as good as anything I've heard in a price bracket worth double their value.

They also look like a JBL EON copy, a few chead JBL badges off ebay and.........Bob's your auntie !

So why didn't I buy a pair....Please refer to 4 ohm / 8ohm debate relating to the mixer amp I was using for a small project. Had they done these in a 4 ohm version I wouldn't have hesitated in buying a pair (honestly)

Look at the sensitivity 103db

It actually reads: "Sensitivity 103dB (+/- 3dB)" which is quite significant as I suspect if one were to measure it, the figure would be closer to 100dB at 1w/1m (on a good day) and certainly nowhere close to 106dB, the opposite end of this tolerance. 106dB sensitivity takes you well into the realms of pro audio.

Allowing for power compression, according to these specs you have a box that might play somewhere between 120dB and 130dB. 130dB is twice as loud as 120dB to the human ear.

Those specs compare with a car manufacturer claiming a maximum speed of soomewhere between 65 and 130mph. In other words, the specs aren't worth the time of day, as they tell you nothing useful about the cabs.

hope not but i no the damn things are heavey lol.

Heavy, yes... but I'm sure they're worth that extra weight in gold to get the trademark "wet cardboard box being hit by a shovel" bass.

I once tried recreating that effect on an SPX2000, but the result was so poor by comparison to "the real thing" :D

I just think it might have saved some time & the will to live if the question had been asked about the Hisys speakers in the first place.

Or just listened to Tony:sj:

You in charge of Quality Control tonight? :D :D :D :D :D
Anyway, what do you mean tonight?

Yeah but would he really have been able to afford C5's or whatever Tony likes?  And he wouldn't have been able to fly these,

Now now, Peter ;)

A couple of things:

(1) Isn't a C5 a car? Not familiar with any C5 speakers. C7s and C4s, yes. But not C5s :p

(2) In this case I strongly recommended Mark buy the JBL JRX115s which (can't remember whom) was selling on here ridiculously cheap and virtually new

So there.

Tony, people my age regard the C5 as an electric bicycle. ;) :D :D :D
Many folk recommended the JBL's as an excellent buy. Could have been worse. He could actually have bought 8 ohm Peavey Pro's. :D :D

Well i have never had this problem with load and load of different kit Ive use..

there just not up to it (IMO) the 250w ones of a peavey 1500 and didn't even turn it up half way (and no my mixer was not clipping)..

I run and still run Pro 15s for smaller gigs.

5 years now.

I cant blow the horns, despite trying;)

You were ---

1.Sold duff speakers in the first place--- second hand is always a problem
:(
2. Over powering them :bang:

I have bought all my Peavey stuff from NEW with properly matched products.

Pro 15 plus Subs and now UL15s new.

Might not to be everybodys taste:eek: but you sure as hell cant blow them up if you use correctly rated amps/ mixers.

CRAZY K

Why do some of the posts in this thread read like they were written by Native Americans? I'm expecting to see "Peavey, he make um big noise, like giant metal bird in sky" at any moment!

My latest were made in Corby Pete;) UL15 model.

Er thats just up the road here.

I met the bloke that "made" them on a visit to the factory.

He said your wise buying these--better than the Chinese made :Censored:
products:) :) :)

:D :D :D

Im sure they would my friend.

I was just suggesting that using routine equipment which is matched by the manufacturer---which I do--wasnt causing harm.

This I suspect is NOT what is happening with the varied claims on here of blown speakers, horns and other general problems.

Must excuse me im off in a minute to a gig where I may do some harm with my new perfectly matched UL15s ;)
