I have jsut started up a mobile disco and am trying to find the best way of increasing my bookings.

Is going into pubs and asking effective?
Whats the best way to advertise?

Any help on this or contacts in the East Anglia area would be very much appreciated.

Cheers Charlie

'Word of mouth' is the best advertising you will ever get.

Get together a portfolio, and pro business cards, and arrange a meeting with a few nice local venues.

Tried all that myself, but people have loud mouths and willingly put down rivals including me. Inter Disco rivalry is immence here in Haverhill. Would suggest having a business plan for local area visit hotels and venues let them know that you against many other discos have PLI & PAT and that your able to negotiate fair going rates etc etc..

Offer a reduced rate upon building clientle say start at £130 with an increase of 10p per person entering if you get more than so many people in the premises over say 6 weeks (if there profits go up then they would be glad to pay more) send out letters and follow them up with a phone call don't expect them to come to you.

Arrange an interview with the manager show them your portfolio and have plenty of pictures ask if you could provide them with a service etc etc.....do a wedding show? if they dont already

Would also suggest getting your web-site should you have one listed on as many free local directories as possible like this site inclusive as time goes on you'll strat recieving calls. Use 118 & yell.com for a free listing in the yellow pages etc etc...

heres a few sites to get you started

There's always enough work for everyone. I don't think offering a reduced rate is the way foward.

Sell your 'better' service.

I agree.

Many venues will take you on at a reduced rate, but then are very slippery when it comes to paying more when their take goes up.

It is much harder to increase your charges from a low starting price than to knock a bit off a higher price because you want/need the work.

I've read that three times now and I think it makes sense...

I dont mean permanent discount but it works well in pubs that require more customers doing say doing a 70/80's disco. I started one over 10 years ago but now have seen it rise to most popular place in town, back to what it was before I turned up. I left 6 year ago and the place fell back on its bum the crowd followed me to the new venue. The money was better and atmosphere not so rough (put it down to bad management at the time) I had had enough of new management who thought they knew better.

I now will not budge on my prices but am willing to try to make a venue successful to start with, if a venue will not promote itself then its not worth doing after 3 months
