Great idea, and I'm sure in time they'll improve to the point where they're useful :)

Great idea and pretty mental to be honest. Would look pretty slick in a club environment.

I guess if some wireless tech was around to connect to the ipad into your mixer you could go join the guests on hte dancefloor whilst mixing... kinda like the pacemaker device.

But for the price of two ipads .. surely some CDJs would be a lot more useful!

Who here has the ability of those blokes in this video?? (not with the iPads but with whatever your playout system is)

This frightens the life out of me. Is this something I should be able to do if I'm to be a DJ??

Now I know this isn't the kind of thing that we do at weddings and the like, and I've no intention of going into the "club" scene but should I be able to do this as a written?

I can play tracks, beat match them and mix the outro/intro's but this is different league to what I'm able to do. IE have the creativity to pick two tracks, know where to cue the scratching of one into the other etc etc.

Well apart from "play tracks" that's more than I generally do, and I'm not doing too badly at this game :)

If you're a mobile jock looking after family parties then leave this stuff to the bedroom and club guys. :beer1:

I'd say that being able to scratch 2 records together like that is the bare minimum for being a wedding DJ :D

NOT! .... It can sound good when done well though.

My opinion is that you need enough talent to pick the right songs that flow together and if you can, beatmatch them, otherwise dropping one on top of another with good timing works just as well expecially for genres like the 60s

If you want to scratch, try triggering samples and scratch sounds as cue stutter rather than scratching first, as scratching is difficult to learn and I have better things to do :D

It just comes with practice really and knowing your tunes. People like that bloke in the video tend to specialise in a 1 or 2 styles. They are not really skills you would need at a regular mobile disco. I used to work with a bloke that could do all sorts of :Censored: with a 1210 but when asked to do a straight mix of 2 trance tunes, he was lost.

I think the scratching is very clever though. I have seen an 11 year kid on the DMC championships with 4 turntables which was pretty impressive where he was stopping and starting each deck in such a way to create new loops.

I love this video when they start to scratch each others decks lol

Looks pretty bad on the lag in that vid and would rather the old grooves rather than a touchscreen to do any scratching.

Flying ipad? :D

I think it is a pretty amazing bit of kit, but the question is ... what would I use it for? There is a lot of crossover with existing computers / laptops but I am going to be watching the whole ipad thing very carefully as it has a lot of potential.

i recon it will be a 3D thing or something in a few years??

Well i cant seem to find any use the ipad personally (other than the obvious sites & demonstrating option extras to clients if i had any) :)
My girlfirend on the other hand only uses the internet and word occasionally on her rubbish (in my opinion) HP pavillion somrthing or rather  which cost loads and is bulky and so not portable!

She is also running my new business My handbag shop so perfect to show new stock without having to have it to hand.
My question is - can anyone name a good reputable supplier who can sell these for a good price (not ebay  ).

I use Serato Itch with a Vestax VCI300 and that is technical enough. I do not see how an entire ipad is necessary to act as one deck? Especially how with Novations Dicer to compliment serato scratch and turntables you can set up loop points very easily.

So what can an entire Ipad do that a DC deck or vinyl turntable hooked up to serato Scratch can not do? Or serato itch with one of its custom controllers?

I think this has more to do with "show off" factor than anything else. If that is your purpose than great! Must be very expensive though!
