I've got a 'lead' on an event. The client require just "white/twinkly?" lighting.

Apart fromthe obvious mirror ball can anyone suggest any lighting makes and models. All I'm looking for is something low budget as these will probably never be used again after this event.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I get the impression she's looking for complete disco lighting but with just white output. I can do this with dmx control on my cuirrent set-up....but I'm still looking for a nice "twinkle" effect light from somewhere?

Are you sure its that complicated?

I worked last night in a Marquee and against the wall of the Marquee nearest the Dance Floor were a series of white twinkly lights using white cable--sort of thing you buy for Xmas from the Garden centre for the cube root of f...all!!!! Not flashing--just giving illumination to the dance floor.

If you are a professional ASK the client what they want---its the only way--pointless trying to second guess these things,

I help organise an annual Valentines Ball. We deck the hall out with literally 1000's of Christmas lights - all white, with some that twinkle. We have a Circular centrepiece from Ikea and i have the mirrorball going as well.

It looks really effective. If someone can tell me how to post an image on the thread i will post a picture!!

To post a reply with an image, you need to use the 'manage attachments' which is in the options just below the bit where you actually type your reply. If you click on that, you should be able to work it out from there, but if not, let me know.

I'd already asked (still awaiting her reply). The aim of the topic is not to second guess but to be able to offer the client further suggestions.

Looks vary interesting Neil...thanks for posting. Is that a chocolate fountain in the centre?

The white 'christmas lights' look very effective. Can anyone recommend a supplier?

One catalogue company that I have used for personal bits & bobs that I have always thought looked very reasonable for Christmas decorations is "Studio". They've only recently gone online as well. Have a look here (http://www.catalogue.24studio.co.uk/page.asp?b=AW2006&p=24&o=1&link=menu)

They are definitely the 'in' thing at the moment.

Can't help thinking that they are getting over-use and that people will get fed up with them (a bit like a song being played to death..... after a while, nobody wants to hear it ever again!)

Why buy one when you can simply rent us!

Can't talk fountains and not expect rice to jump in!

Neil, off topic, but if thats PCDJ FX, why not download a skin, 1028 x 1024. It will make your PCDJ full screen, also looks like a DAC 3 controller.

Can't talk fountains and not expect rice to jump in!I was only joking Matt - not actually getting one...... I was just surprised that your 6th sense didn't sniff out the conversation earlier! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: We're going rather 'off-topic' here, but just quickly before we get back to the point in question..... How's the new business going?

White / twinkly lighting effects.....any other suggestions?

My suggestion would be a simple white moonflower effect also known as a sparkler effect. These units are available for next to nothing and can be very effective with a dark blue colour wash or something.

I have used these at many events and they always seem to work well...

Looks ideal - any links or name of manufacturer?

Found a white moonflower link (http://www.americandj.com/product.asp?ProductIDNumber=1510&cat=Hightech) Does the venue in question allow fog or haze machines? Plain beams of white light will look great through a little smoke

What about some of these (http://www.djhardware.co.uk/pages/productinfo.asp?F_ProductID=678) if you want "throw away" effects.

They're only a low wattage, but with no colour filters in front of the beam you don't realy need a powerful effect in a semi darkened room

Great ideas so far...the white moonflower seems absolutely perfect. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes... following on from my suggestion I would also recomend something like the Soundlab Venus. Very cheap and if you get a number of them very effective and plenty bright enough in a darkened room. I would also recomend using them with a bit of haze or smoke if you can as the effect will then be stunning.

If you have a look on ebay you can usally get them for almost nothing. Try here (http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=soundlab+venus).

The only thing I would say about the effects is make sure you get ones which you can turn the rotation mode off. This can become a little sickly after a while with the room constantly spinning! :omg:

Seems to be even cheaper here (http://www.ukdj.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=14373) than they are on eBay (taking into account p&p. :)
