I have put the title in search and variances of it also to no avail:bang: . I have recently aquired a lap top, albeit very cheap, to use as and when, but the noise coming through the speakers is like interference.
I am running a 3.5 mm jack from channel 3 on my 4 channel mixerto the lap top. Is this an earth problem?, how do i stop it??.

Thanks in advance.
Mike

Voila! (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=33172) although I've seen them cheaper on well known auction sites before now.

Does the hum go away if the lappy's running on battery? If so, this will almost certainly do the trick.

yes fella.. it is an earthing problem.

You may also find the power pack is causing "noise" as it could be " dirty "

I tried ground loop isulators...... and other options.....
In the end I gave up and now use optical output.

I have used the Maplins ones for a few years they seem to work fine.

Get yourself a Numark IODJ unit. Works wonders, improves quality all round. It connects via USB.

I tried an isolater but this is much better.

Excellent piece ofg kit, thoroughly delighted with it, but not convinced it totally negates the need for a GLI. It certainly cuts the noise down, but I don't personally feel it removes it completely. With different kit, particularly laptop, Robbie's results may easily be very different. No hard and fast rule, I feel.
