well i think the perfect amp for the hysis 2 speakers would be a numark dimension 3, also this amp would handle easily another 2 speakers!

Look for a secondhand QSC RMX2450, which you can usually find for around £300.

Firstly Robb, welcome to the forum :teeth:

We have got a pair of HiSys 2s and HiSys 115 bass bins, and i must say that the HiSys 2s are excellent speakers in my opinion.

As you live in Walsall, why don't you check out George's Music Store (Walsall's only Peavey agent!) We got our HiSys 2s from there, and payed a total of £350 for the two second hand off George...but he had replaced both of the drivers in the speakers and put in new horns, so they were a new speaker internally apart from the cab of course :)

It is worth a look in George's as he regularly has Peavey HiSys 2s in stock, among other Peavey speakers. Also, try my Mike across the road at TR Music. He sometimes has Peavey speakers in as part of p/x deals, so definately worth a try in there also.

We run our HiSys 2s using a Behringer EP1500 and our HiSys 115 bins with the Behringer EP2500. Obviously, there are better amps out there, like the QSC RMX-2450, but our Behringer amps are adequate enough for our needs :)

Seems to be a lot of talk about Peavey of late, quite surprising really as the forums have been full of comments from disgruntled DJs about the lack of quality for the last two years! The usual statement being that "Old Peavey" is much better than "New" Peavey. Still each to his own. My recommendation as with any speaker, would be have a listen first.

I have so far refrained from commenting, as I have never owned any Peavey disco gear.

I have however owned a Peavy guitar amp/speaker combo, it was pants!

Some of the older Peavey was pretty good, the DTH and HDH. I come across lots of Hisys thesedays, and they always sound pretty aweful to me. As long as you're happy, go with it :D

Yes, i agree, eBay is definately worth a detailed look as they have only been going between £100 and £250 recently so you'll pick up a bargain. There is also quite a lot listed in the Bargain Pages, which was where we had our bass bins from :teeth: Here are a few links to some of the HiSys 2s listed on eBay currently.

Peavey HiSys 2XT Full Range Speakers (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-Hi-Sys-2-XT-Series-Speakers-Pair-350w-RMS_W0QQitemZ130010567965QQihZ003QQcategoryZ69967Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Worth a check in the other local papers as well, like the Express & Star, Evening Mail, etc, as there are generally a few listed in the music section on a regular basis.

Good luck with it anyway Robb :)

Pretty good deal that, (even though they are Peavey). Can't argue for £100.

They feature a seperate mid driver aswell, so would probrably sound much better than the Hi-Sys 2, especially for Karaoke...

What will be the primary use of the equipment? Disco, Karaoke, Live work?

Might be an option to invest in a good powered mixer with built in effects, then all you need is microphones :D

Can I suggest that you buy properly matching amps mixers and music players to go with your Peavey speakers.

That way you will give them a fair chance of sounding reasonable--I say this as the owner of properly matched Peavey equipment that sounds absolutely fine--admittedly mine is new and you have no idea what abuse your speakers have been subjected to in the past!

re- power MIxer what about this mixer?

Mainly for using at band rehearsals and doing live shows, with the option of DJ ing Gigs. i was thinking of getting some more peavey "hefty Subs' & a extra power amp to go with the xt cabs.then add a cross over to the set up?

Paul James Promotions

Yes, that mixer would do the job, but I would be looking for something a bit more powerful, probrably 600 watts per channel into 4 ohms.

Then, as you say, you can add subs, seperate amp and crossover at a later stage.

That is what my dad and i decided to do when we brought our HiSys 2s. IMO, the bass end does need a little more emphasis on the HiSys 2 speakers, but as i have never heard a pair of the XT cabs, then i am unable to comment.

However, the bass bins that we run are the HiSys 115 cabs, which we cross over using an active crossover. We also run these with a separate amp, which IMO, is essential when running full range speakers and a bass setup. The Peavey HiSys range of bass speakers come in a 12", 15" and 18" setup.

There are a pair of the 15" version (HiSys 115 that we use) currently on eBay. The seller has put a reserve on them, but if you were interested, then an early offer to end the auction wouldn't be a bad idea.

Peavey HiSys 115 Bass Bins (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-HiSys-Bass-Bins_W0QQitemZ180011111524QQihZ008QQcategoryZ23794 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting)

However, in another auction, there is a pair of the 18" XT bass bins, which is the same range as your full range speaker as you have just bought.. but they are as part of a setup. If you were interested in these, you could always ask the seller if they would consider spliting the setup. After reading the description, the bass cabs have just had new drivers fitted, so they are basically a new speaker internally.

Peavey XT Bass Bins (18" inch) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2x-Peavey-Hisys-4-cabs-and-2x-XT-series-Bass-cabs_W0QQitemZ170010473932QQihZ007QQcategoryZ23794 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

There have been some 12" versions on eBay over the past few weeks, but none on there now unfortunately.

Good luck though Robb :)
