I believe I saw something like a dn-x600 or 625 or 650 which I guess is an update on the 500. Any thoughts or am I in my own little world again?!!!

You possibly could be!

The 500 only came out in the last year of so, so I can't really imagine they've bought another new one out yet!?

Really?

I use Denon for my main system and love it. Very reliable and the sound via the dn-x500 mixer is very good.

The only quibble I have about the mixer is that when it's fitted in my flightcase it cant be switched off via the on-off switch (switch is located on the back of mixer). It's the same with the mic inputs, they're way at the back too and it's a pain to get to them when needed. Apart from that I really like the unit.

If you can afford it, Denon is the bee's knees. May be overkill for some mobile disco use though, if that's possible

Snap! Awesome feature set - especially the key effect for the mic!
Pity they didn't have it in the 19" format though

I've got one too. Great mixer but I've found the button mechanisms (mic etc) to be rather flimsy. Just over a year old and many of them have collapsed. Maybe I've just been unlucky or I'm too heavy handed. All in all I'm not impressed.

Surprising Shaun. What other button mechanisms have collapsed then? I can only think of the mic and cue buttons that are pressed on and off on a regular basis. Mine isn't quite as old as that, but is in perfect order.

Both Mic buttons and a cue button have collapsed. They all still work but I have to fiddle about trying to press down on a corner of the button to get them to switch on. Very poor build quality (in my opinion)...which is surprising for a Denon.

I have a DN-X1500 and a DN-X500. I've had the 1500 for 3 years I think now, and I've hammered it (mainly at home, haven't had it out on the road much!), and it's still going as strong as the day I bought it. The 500 I've had for about a year or so, and no problems with that either. They both have the same build and components, just in different designs.

Guess I'm in trouble with my Allen & Heath Xone 3d then.
Well yes, it is a bit much for mobile disco use! :p

ah didn't see this....so when these sites talk flightcase sizes i.e.: "flightcase for 12" mixer" - will this fit in a 12 incher? or how does this work....having never bought a flightcase individually for a mixer of this variety?

It is classed as a 12" mixer, and is listed under that category on some sites I think. It will just fit slightly tighter in the case :)

One for the fixed mic ( mine) one for the customer corded, and one for the radio mic, if I have to go walkabout! Individual gain, eq, and on/off buttons.

The Numark 200fx has most if not all of that.

That was an option at the time. Had I been sure of certain functions, or seen one in the flesh, I might have gone that way. I suspect that the extra mic channel effectively removes one of the line inputs.

Why don't you just use the radio mic? It will work when you're right next to the receiver too, you know! :p

Why a different mic for the customer, I can understand it if it's karaoke, but just for the occassional short speeches?

That's a good idea, yeah, but using 3 mics seems a bit much to me. Especially if it's limiting your choice of mixer :)

1) = You like the sound of your own voice.
or
2) = You set fire to them too offten and need them as back up....

Well I have 2 mic inputs on my DN-X500, generally only use the XLR input, with a Shure SM58. The quality is very satisfactory, no problems, everyone's happy. Quality over quantity is what I say!

No way is the customer wandering off with a SM58, I have kittens when the radio mic goes on it's travels. The corded mic is for customers and is lowest acceptable price and quality.

PS the spare mics are useful for talking over to tell the punter to get closer than a metre from the mic for it to work!:bang: And the kill switch for the " lets shout down it as loudly as we can " brigade!

I suspect that the extra mic channel effectively removes one of the line inputs.

It does, but then you can switch in between lines. I use mine specifically for karaoke and use 2 mic channels and the other two for music.

But that's just one more thing to remember to do, much easier if you have enough channels without having to switch between sources

And when i hit play on the CD Player for a mega wonderful segue, and it;s switched to mic?

It doesn't do what I want. If I wanted to it would be safer to have a microphone mixer, rather than your way. I have enough trouble getting all my ducks in a row, without the possibility of a switch in the wrong place.

OK, if you can't remember to flick one switch then fair enough. Remind me again, why do you need all those channels?

OK, now the sensible answer. I stated my mic requirements previously. You may not agree, as is your right, but they are MY requirements. Four line inputs, because I use four music sources. Three more than some, but that's the way I have worked for, let's say, ten years.
Maybe I'm the only one doing this, but my decision, my requirements. If you can work with one line input for the laptop, and one radio mic input, fair enough, good luck to you. I can't.

Why would I disagree with what you need? I was merely suggesting some alternatives which I thought might help. Obviously they didn't, and I won't bother to waste my time again.

I also run 4 lines for music whilst DJing but use something different for stand alone karaoke.

That comes across to me as legit. I think Darren makes a fair comment, should something go wrong, or you suddenly need to switch to a different player (something goes bust or whatever), you're going to be in a bit of flap - and thus might not remember (until it doesn't work) that you need to flip the switch.

Am I missing something? I thought I made it clear that I wanted one source-one channel, therefore no switches to forget. I have four music sources, each one with a channel of it's own. If one does go wrong, another will be available without the possibility of a switch in the wrong position. Darren, if I remember, advocated a mixer where a mic and a line were sharing a channel, a practice which I wish to avoid.

This water is getting awfully muddy. No offence is intended to anyone here, I just explained why I use the mixer I do.

BTW Steve, How much is that UREI? I have heard good things about them before. I think I need one urgently!:D

With mixers you get what you pay for. I will back the above quote up. I have the same mixer. Its been the best dj mixer ive ever had. Other mixers ive had like the citronics, gemini, behringer, numark havent been nowhere near as good none of them were bad mixers apart from the behringer one but the denon one is just a lot better.
