We are giving it a go ………………..starting up a North East NADJ branch.

Date : Tuesday 16th November 2010
Time : 7pm
Venue : The Quakerhouse, Darlington http://www.quakerhou.../Page/music.htm (I will get directions when I find out where to go :D ) There is plenty free parking nearby.

The cost is free although we may have a ‘domino card’ or raffle to help pay for nibbles provided - we are not making any profit and have secured the room for free.

Before you stop reading – this is not just for NADJ members. These meetings are open to all. There will be a quick 15 minute presentation about the NADJ and benefits attached, and you are very welcome to join, however there is no pressure whatsoever and we will NOT be constantly touting for you to join.

We have had quite a few social gatherings this year and the idea of starting up regular ‘little more formal’ meetings have been discussed so we thought we would give it a go.

If anyone has been to a meeting before you will know of the tremendous benefits and knowledge they bring together with a good night out.

So far the agenda has still to be finalised. I will be honest in saying I don’t think any of us were ready for some of the obstacles faced.

The agenda so far will comprise of :

Meet and Greet

Intro and explanation of NADJ + benefits (promise this is short and brief with no pressure)

Supplier Demo - still to be finalised but we do have some new lighting products to demonstrate as a minimum

Break + bring and buy (feel free to bring any items you have for sale)

Meeting – is it going to work ?? We will also welcome feedback about what YOU want from a meeting and of anyone has anything to offer. I am going to draft up a brief questionnaire to gather everyone’s views – if you can’t attend but would like to fill in a questionnaire let me know and will email one over.

Shure microphone sound off – light hearted competition to see if you can hear the difference between a range of Shure microphones – you may be surprised !!!

We will also be looking to form a committee. This takes a minimum of 3 members who are committed and are able to dedicate the time required for the roles. Don’t be afraid if you have not been involved so far – if you feel you can succeed on the committee let us know, the last thing we want is to be seen to be cliquey.

The main objectives are to find out what DJ’s in the area want from these meetings. The only rule we have so far is that there will be NO talking about pricing. Once a pricing conversation starts it takes over. We hope the meeting will help people to learn and make their own choices about pricing. We hope to have a wide range of DJ’s there from club/pub DJ’s to established wedding DJ’s – again ALL are welcome.

Please let me know if interested or have any questions. I would also advise to keep an eye on this thread for any changes that occur. The date, venue and time however is set.

Little bump
This is YOUR opportunity to have your say if you would like regular DJ meetings / socials in the area. Uptake has been slow so if anyone interested, please let me know.

Another shameless bump :D

We had a pre-meeting, meeting tonight to run through the evening and check out the venue.

The venue is superb (apart from the stairs) and is within easy access for car, bus, train etc so getting there should not be a problem. Contact me for directions if you wish.

During the evening we are trying to keep things as informal as possible. There will be a few words to describe what the meetings are about and more importantly finding out what YOU would like from a meeting.

We also have :

Chauvet moving head demonstration
Bring and buy table - get rid of your unused equipment. (please let me know what you intend bringing so we can ensure sufficient space is allocated)
Shure Microphone Competition - light hearted, see if you can tell the difference between a range of shure microphones
We will have nibbles on the table and a domino card (all takings paid out)

Not a lot to begin with as we hope to use the time to socialise and to find out peoples ideas for meetings. If you have a particular product, subject etc you would like to present at a future meeting please let me know.

We also hope to 'formalise' the meetings to keep the support of the NADJ and hopefully assist us in becoming a recognised branch. I WILL STRESS AGAIN THOUGH - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A NADJ MEMBER AND NO PRESSURE WILL BE APPLIED TO JOIN.

I cannot stress enough what you can gain from these meetups. For example a little pointer I picked up at the Yorkshire meeting, I am sure has helped me gain 2 good bookings this past week. The longetivity of these meetings does ultimately depend on support.

During the meeting I will also have an questionnaire to gain feedback from yourselves as to what you would like to see - if you cannot attend but would like a questionnaire to fill in please pm me.

If you would like further information please fire away.

Well it's tomorrow night boys and girls. (yes Paul - Supersound - TOMORROW)

Good to see most the 'regulars' are coming but would be great to see some new faces. As I keep saying - this really is YOUR chance to have your say.

Well a start was made last night. I have to say a massive thanks to everyone who turned up last night, it exceeded our expectations especially considering the terrible driving conditions.

I will not report on the actual night, other to say everyone who turned up now knows we DO NOT practice and have very little scripted. :D

The aim of the meeting was to see what interest was out there. Putting it bluntly - the interest was there and we are moving forward.

Next meeting date is already arranged as Tuesday 11th January 2011 venue will be the same place and we SHOULD have a very good DMX seminar amongst other things. (the DJ doing the seminar will have read instructions first ;) ) As mentioned meetings will be bi-monthly.

Also we will have more information about the 'formalities' of forming a branch and hopefully grow from here.

Thanks once again for the great response, support and messages received.

Finally made it to a meeting and I had a pretty good time. And that Wolf real ale was just spot on!

First of all, thanks to Shaun Flatliners for the lift - we had a tremendous adventure just trying to find the flippin' place! In the end we just parked up and continued the search on foot!

Secondly, thanks to Chris PPEntertainments for arranging the lift with Shaun (much appreciated!) and for organising a decent, if very much unrehearsed ;) night!

Got to meet Steve Hanley and Mary - it's good to see a couple with a lot of enthusiasm for the job. Mary is obviously very supportive of Steve which, from experience, is a quality that's rare to find when you're a DJ, as well as going out to do her own gigs.

I'm absolutely hopeless at remembering names until I've met people a few times, and I did chat with a few others, which was good to hear anecdotes and stories from other people's gigs. And the two guys who did the lights demo (and I chatted with a bit before the end) were a real scream. A class comedy double act (although I'm not 100% sure everything was as intended! ;) )

Anyway, if they're going to be bi-monthly then I look forward to the January 2011 meeting!

Just to let everyone know, our next meeting date IS Tuesday 11th January, same time, same place.

Apologies for the late notice, this is due to xmas / new year and illness.

I will post more details later, recovering from flu at the moment and have no voice. Meeting definetly happening and we do have a good agenda planned, just need to finalise.
