Hi all,

can anyone recommend a good dual USB sata enclosure?

Preferable one with an internal power supply.

Must be able to take up to 2 x 1TB disks.

Many thanks.

Then have a look at the netgear stora. I use one and find it very handy for backing up my data. Although it is a network drive with usb it is still cheaper than some dual bay usb enclosures.
Mine has been ok for last year so far.

Thanks Martin.....will have a look.

In the meantime I have found this...

Martin

the netgear does not support JBOD and it has an external A/C supply.

But thanks for the suggestion.

No... don't go with Buffalo ... a multinational trusted storage brand that's been around for donkeys years and a (generally) good reputation.... buy some cheap no-brand Chinese kack from Fleabay.

Great advice there :daft:

it's a hard call as I was thinking about having 2 x 2TB drives in one enclosure, but I am thinking about the heat that would be generated so do I go for a small compact unit or a slightly larger one with a big fan.

I'm not sure how much these 2TB give off heat.

I'm not sure how much these 2TB give off heat.

No discernable difference from other 3.5" drives of the same spin rate and cache size to be honest.

In fact, when not fragmented to death, theoretically they should give off less heat as there's less head movement.

But we're talking fractions here.

At the end of the day the heat generated will be directly related to how hard you work them.

Thanks for the info....small it is then..
now off to find 2x2tb drives for a good penny or two.

Thanks for the link but I'm not after a NAS.

Just a dual usb/esata enclosure will do.
