I will be DJing at my first civil partnership at the end of this month and went to meet the two gay guys having the ceremony and was asking them lots of questions about etiquette etc and the subject of how I was going to introduce them came up.

Anyhow, they told me just to use their names, which was fine, but they were telling me that at the council offices, they still have to put one of them down as bride and one as the groom!

The younger of the partners has to be the bride and the older the groom, and this is the same for both men getting hitched and women.

You would have thought that the council could have thought about that and maybe worded it a bit better, wouldn't you?

...and how stereotypical? Who says that the 'male' (ie Groom) has to be the older one of the couple? I object! ;)

I wonder why?

This could turn into a bit of a debate... :omg:

Well, I would imagine, that many officials do not approve of homosexual weddings (whether they take that stance officially or not)

The problem is, there isn't really an alternative, is there? What are they going to call them? Partner 1 & Partner 2?

The same kind of music that would normally be played at a wedding to be honest. They did ask me to play a bit of a silly session later on when people had a few drinks, including YMCA and dancing queen! They told me that no-one would be offended if I played those two, and they also like Kylie!!

There isn't a first dance and they don't want any slowies as such either.

How did you do one a couple of years ago K - I thought this civil partnership licence was fairly new?

Ah well DAZ--what I did was an exchange of vows type ceremony--exactly the same as the new set up I would say--although not with the legal bit attached, although this couple I worked for-really nice people-have possibly
done the legal bit now-

Because it was before the official "gay wedding" thing they kept it very low profile--so low that they didnt tell me what it was all about--I didnt find out until I got to the event--I then noticed something pinned to the wall in the outer area of the Hall--then I realised what it was all about. S...!

In my usual professional way I just got on with the job--and had a great night.

I have been working with the gay community ever since the 80s--when someone phoned up and said--do you mind doing a Barn Dance for a gay club? I said--listen--we take money from ANYONE!!!! :teeth:

Got a hand in with the gear from some helpful strong looking blokes--I thought they might have been Village People!
