A decent laptop with a HD of at least 60gig but 100+ would be better.

Laptop would be better .

THere are pros and cons for both really.

A laptop is more convenient and easier to carry, but a desktop or rackmount is easier to repair and upgrade etc.

IMO, OtsDJ is the best software to use, but also look at BPM Studio and PCDJ.....

As someone who hasn't got a clue about the differences between the different programs, any chance you could tell us the differences, and the pros and cons of each?

Dont forget the launch of the Cortex HD 1000 in America soon and also the Numark Dee Squared Director which is on sale now at £480.

The Cortex seems cheaper--but dont know if its any good!

I think these search console products used with a hard drive will revolutionise Music for Professional Entertainers----anyone tried the Numark product yet?

If you want something that works well, is low on system esources and is cheap to buy try Virtual DJ. Otherwise PCDJ is very good but a lot more expensive and much more system resource hungry.

The best thing to do is download the demo versions of them all, have a play and then decide which works best for you.

No point in asking people's opinions as all they will tell you is to use the one they use, as they are used to it!

Having tried OTS / BPM Studio / SAM / Traktor and PCDJ I would say IMO that for ease of use, reliability and functionality PCDJ would be my choice. That said everyone has different ways of working and preferences.

I would say your best bet would be to download a free demo of the programs and try them for youself. A quick Google and I'm sure you'll find demo versions on the manufacturers websites.

I've used both Traktor DJ Studio 3 & Virtual DJ is live situations and both have been perfect.

Didnt like the feel of most others mentioned here.

If you ask a question, how about listening to the answers you get?

Try the various demos and then you can decide.

Well if it doesn't work on your system dont go and pay for a bit of software that doesnt work!

I find different programs are good for different situation. MixVibes 6 amazing if your going to sit at the computer all night, or Virtual DJ if you want it to do some of the mixing for you.

If you are using a laptop, then an external usb or pcmcia soundcard, remote controller (DAC-2 etc), external drive for backup, cooling pad, ground loop isolators possibly.

Before you rush out and buy remember---search console products used with a hard drive may be a better option, depending on your budget of course.

...and also remember that the new licence currently under discussion will almost definitely be a requirement when it's sorted.
