View Full Version : Mixer downsize or New Flightcase?

Hey guys,

I have a slight predicament. My current CD/mixer flightcase is 2U/6U/2U which is great for my CD players and Numark DM1720SE 6U Mixer however, It leaves no room for my PCDJ DAC-2 controller.

My initial view was "I'll just get a bigger case" - Although my Mixer's been well looked after, the years of service are beginning to take their toll (faders are starting to get a tad crackly - although these could be replaced/fixed/serviced)
A quick scout around the net shows that There's mixers out there that will do everything my current one does, yet in a 4U package.

So do I simply replace the case for something that'll accommodate my current setup (or allow for future expansion?) , or keep my current case (which doesn't necessarily have anything wrong with it) and get a new mixer, which would probably be due for renewal sometime this year anyway.

Both cost around the same (£130)

Thoughts?

Cheers

Get the right mixer first, then get a case to fit. Heaven knows, I'm hardly a gear snob, but the first mixer I'd look at every time would be this.

Or if you really want to allow for future expansion in the same case, what about something like the mixer I was asking about in this thread http://www.forum.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/showthread.php?p=508483#post508483

It's 4U smaller than the Numark & 2U smaller than the Denon

X500's out of budget at the moment chaps, It has caught my eye though, used a Pioneer DJM3000 in a bar I worked at and that was a joy to use.

I think i've probably just answered my own question - I probably wouldn't be satisfied with a sub-par mixer, as the saying goes - you buy cheap, you buy twice (or maybe the saying doesn't go like that at all and i've just made it up...hmm)

Perhaps my main priority should be protecting the equipment I already have.

If I still had my CDJ's perhaps! - Don't use digital outputs on my Twin CD players, and my PCDJ Rig only uses analogue so it'd be a waste :(
