You'd be better off with a secondhand Peavey or a Behringer EP2500 Zach.

Well at my local dj store it's on sale for a £179 Is this quite resonable just for a backup amp?

Audiohead used to be made for Source manufacturing until they changed to zoom. I assume they're made for them now as they look exactly the same! Although having said that none of the stockists i knew have them anymore (B-grade aside). They were alrite amps so I've heard. Similar sort of thing to the berry europowers, probably not as good though. Only reason I say that is that even people from the professional sound industry would recommend behringer if you're after budget amps. And they're about the same sort of price range.

Pretty sure they're just made in china with a different logo stamped on them for a few companies.

i've heard of them before, and have also heard a few bad stories about them.

as a backup amp, what kind of power do you need?

I've heard quite the opposite. A number of people saying how impressed they are for the price.

The same as your normal system, as it is in fact another system for backup purposes.

I wouldn't say that's true.

You need something to get you out of trouble if your main amp goes down.

Anything is better than nothing in these cases.

And if you have reliable gear it shouldn't be called on too often.

possibly one of those "some win, some dont" situations, like with behringer mixers.

dmx will - obviously it needs to ideally be the same power, but i dont know what he's using already :) hence why i asked. however, what daz said is right - you need it there to get you out of the ****, not to be perfect... thats just a bonus

Yeah true, although hes talking about spending £170 on the audio head, isnt a behringer europower just over the £200 mark?

Yeah, which is what I suggested when he bought an old set of cabs off me...

Blimey, this is so complicated sometimes!

I drove up to see Zach to sell him 2 pairs of Ohm RW3s and suggested either to buy a Peavey PV2600 secondhand or a Behringer EP2500...

This was a few weeks ago.

Yeah, got it! I was suggesting he bought another Behringer amp for around £200, getting the same amp, as he currently uses for a little bit more.

Agreed.

I didn't know that he'd bought one though for his main rig!

Confusing!

I bought a EP2500 for way below £200 at decks.co.uk although it was in person. You may get the same sort of deal if you ask how low they will go on it.

this amp is what I would class as a studio amp, new they cost over £500 so £175 is a bargain , the spec is as follows
1, 8 ohms st 650 watts x2
2, 4 ohms st 1200 watts x2
3, 8 ohms bridged 2000 watts x1

like to see a peavey come anywhere near that, only probs with the amps are, 1. Thin steel, (bends slightly when picking up (each side), so really needs a 2u flight case to keep it in,
2. Company went bust, so many b grade amps are out and about.
3. make sure that the name on the top case is sorce , not audiohead, (they started production again under sorce) these amps will be under g-tee
as far a quality and sound go,s for the money they are superb bit on the bass side, but alot of jocks prefer that
hope that helps

and unlike the others not gonna ask you to book me, cos I,m booked solid till 2008
ps anybody out there got any 2 or 3 u flight cases for sale, (please no crapy plywood ones, abs gator, or alli (solid) cheers)

Not sure Id agree with you there.

They are manufactured by Source and I would say they are a budget amp.

£500? Hardly! http://www.directdistribution.uk.com/item3555.htm and that was the first place I looked!

These amps are good value for the money. They are based on a generic design shared with C mark (which electrovision are selling as soundlab amps) and T amps from thomann.

These amps are quite reliable and i have sold a few of them and not had any problems with returns, Only problem you might find is sometimes they will blow a fuse when you turn off and switch to bridged then turn back on without waiting for a few mins.
also the disadvantage on getting one of these over a peavey or behringer is they wont bridge to 4 ohms/ run in 2 ohms stereo.
