I've forgotten the user login password on a seldom used laptop that has Vista Business installed.

Is there any way I can get reset it without using any of the various password recovery programmes? (the cd drive doesn't work, so can't boot from that).

Tried booting in safe mode, but it still asks for a login.

Admin password hasn't been set to anything, but I can't work out how to get into user accounts. Everything I do ends up asking for a login.

Is it just for getting data off or do you actually need to get into it?

If it's just for data extraction then you can get any Linux ISO, boot from it and take what you want.

Thanks Ian - wanted to actually get into it - managed to make a bootable USB stick in the end and ran a password recovery programme from that. Just reset it this second and it's all fine.
