Just reading the specs makes me wonder, specifically these bits:

Cool system: fan
Stability: about 4 hour
Warm-up time:< 15 minutes

15mins to warm up and only stable for 4hrs???? That makes me think it's not a Semiconductor laser... (given the wavelength, I'd be pretty sure in fact).

had looked at that myself was wondering what they meant by stability ?

Why not go for green? I'd never use any other coloured laser.

I have bought a Reke mini disco light (green and red) £51.00 from the same company. It is so far, an excellent little light and well worth the money. I have run it several times for 2 hours continuous with no problems.

From a conversation I had with a guy who used to work in military development of lasers... Non-semiconductor lasers rely on the excitation of a gas or liquid (usually by exposure to high voltages) to produce light. The problem with this is that the gas or liquid tends to heat up, when it heats up, it's chemical properties change and it no longer emits light (it becomes "unstable"). The trick (my mate said) was always to choose gases or liquids which could be heated, and would revert back to their original form when they cooled down (bearing in mind he was talking about military applications with very power output where the liquid could change state within seconds).

According to my mate, Jelly is a good material for laseing... but doesn't revert back to it's original state when it cools down. I was never sure if he was having me on with that one :D

The one user review is rather strange only shows up on other colours and only tested in his front room,
I would give it a miss.

This one? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/180178

It's weird how some of their lasers quote warm up/cool down times, and others don't?

No it's this one, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200917
The one with the gold effect case.
I am not sure about warm up times as it just goes well as soon as switched on.
It just seems a good cheap lighting effect that I would just use for about an hour at a time.

Something probably got lost in translation - that certainly looks like a bog standard Semi-conductor laser.

Do you think it's any good at all or is there better stuff out there for that price?

Morgey:)

I dunno if there is anything else out there for that price ;)

Time will tell if the Laser diode degrades or the motors fail. Otherwise it's hard to say.

I bought it for the cheap price (obviously) and am not expecting it to last as long as seriously priced lasers. It is the first effect light I have bought and I will be searching the forum for proper lighting gear in the near future.
As you say, time will tell.

Why the hell are Ebuyer selling disco equipment?

And why is it in the office/home department....?

I think it's called "jumping on the band wagon".
Desperate times and all that.:)

Why the hell are Ebuyer selling disco equipment?

Because on of their suppliers have added it to their range of products/services.

Why the hell do Maplin's sell it? It's not like they're experts either :D
