Its caused by the earth cable, if you try it on battery and no mains it wont hum, theres too thing you can do

1, cut the earth wire in the mains cable ( not recomended) but its proves the problem

2, get a gound loop isoalter thing from halfords, sorry cant thing of the correct name

But anyway it works a treat

Hi had this problem on a laptop myself, some people may know that the average laptop cable only uses twin core as the power adapter is usually unregulated (not always but knowing most computer manafactures they cut corners where they can save money) the hum is often cused by the laptops power inverter being located to close to the onboard sound, when i got my new macbook pro i had the same problem. I bought a gound loop isolater from halfords (strange but they are almost half the price of maplin for the same thing) this did remove the hum but lost some frequency from the output as well, ok if you use a full graphics equiliser to compensate but if you dont have one the best course is to buy an external souncard rather than the onboard one, this worked for me after i tried it and i found no frequency loss as with the isolater. Hope this helps.
