Hia

Im trying to sort it out so that I can print from anywhere in my house to my printers downstairs.

Is there something basic I'm missing here?

We have:

3 Windows 7 PC's
1 Windows Vista PC

How do I get them all to talk to each other and share the printers?

Tom

If your printer has ethernet plug it straight into the hub, if not plug it into one pc and setup printer sharing (windows help will guide you)

Why do you need all those PCs?

Perhaps we're old fashioned but at Mum's...I'm the only one with a lappy!

Possibly describing why it 'just wont work' might be of assistance.

I'm only guessing, but when I once enquired about it, I was advised to put the printer on the newest system. If it's on the Vista PC, might that be a hindrance?

I assume the printer is capable of wireless printing if there is no ethernet cable?

Is the computer that the printer attached to on 24/7 and acting as a server? If it's not then that's your problem. Check out the website for the printer as it may not be able to do it.

Is it only the printing you have an issue with here, or getting them all to communicate at all?

Your first port of call is to check the LEDs on the front of the hub, and check that all devices are registering as physically connected.

You'll need to work out whether the IP addresses on the network are assigned manually (by yourself) or automatically (more likely, by DHCP).

Assuming full connectivity, you should log on to the PC to which the printer is attached, and share it from within it's properties.

The other thing to consider is that if you are running different operating systems, you will need the drivers for each operating system installed on the PC to which the printer is connected.

Go to Control panel - network connections - local area connection - properties. Make sure file and printer sharing is ticked. You must also make sure that the printer driver software is loaded on all machines.

Well No.

I was actually in the middle of sorting it out at this point, and almost sorted.

I just bought a wireless printer and set up an ad-hoc network with my laptops. Seems to work ok for me!

I've also got the powerline adaptors from before I moved back in with mam and dad but just haven't bothered with them. The ad-hoc network is simple enough.
