drum & bass wedding!

apparently they're "into their dance music" and "like a bit of drum & bass and dubstep" they also told me to bring lots of hip hop and r&b too. so honestly, chances are it'll turn into more or less you normal chart-oriented affair, with lots of 2-5 year old old hip hop and some oldies for the aunties. though she's told me "no abba!" - bless. i suppose i'll hold them off with "i will survive" instead just since she asked ;)

and, at the end of the day i'll probably play 3 d&b tunes, 2 off his playlist and one via request, and one dubstep "anthem" that will probably clear the floor, and other than that it'll be more or less like any other wedding...

but: hey, they asked for lots of d&b and dubstep!

for all i know i'll have to spin it for an 3 hours solid. weirder things have happened at a wedding! plus, if they really are into their dance music, i'll surely get a request or two for sure. and i wanna have em!

but, truth be told last time i spun d&b was as a resident at an art school hangout in singapore, like 9 years ago, and i doubt they're gonna ask me for anything i have on vynil from back then :whistle:

so, say all i really know of the last 9 years-to-current d&b scene is listening to a few hospital podcasts and some brazilian stuff from 03... what tracks should i line up for this wedding?

any super-mega-ultra-d&b-and-dubstep-anthems from the last 5 years or so would probably be a good place to start ha ha ha

Lots of weddings the average age is 25-30 so anything from roni size to chase a status could be a hit.

Get a track list from the client would be my bet.

I would come armed with a range of stuff (mainly chart remixes and classics) and test the water on to start with.
All the normal chart stuff is of course a must unless they want a dedicated style or playlist?

We did a 4 star wedding the other day with just wolf gan garner type stuff (electro).
My top suggestion would be lots of pendulum (tarantula seems the most popular)

nah, i just asked them to send me a few copies of itunes playlists - they might have taken that to mean "send me a complete playlist of every song we want to hear in this order" but they didn't come across as that kind of client. though i'd imagine they may put together a list of tunes for me, as often happens.

but i'll get requests, probably. i just like to be the guy that replies to "do you have song X?" with <looks> "sure, it's up next!"

i've actually got that one, i play it at my friends' parties all the time and they love it - it doesn't sound like dubstep to me, more like some kinda twisted noisy grunge metal remix. it's excellent! but i doubt i'd ever play it at a wedding, some humorless whiney type would probably come up and complain about me playing the wrong version in 30 seconds flat :quiet:
