Every so often I have a gig where I need to use a wedge (floor monitor), at the moment I hire them in.
I have been thinking for a while of getting some dedicated wedges.
I was wondering whether it’s worth getting a dedicated wedge or use a standard speaker, e.g. a SRM 450.
If it’s worth getting a dedicated wedge, does any one have any recommendations?
I’ve been looking at a couple JBL JRX112m which I’ve seen for about £140 second hand (each).

What do you need them for - karaoke, bands?

Thanks for the pointer, is it just the one as a pair would be nice. :p
Although I could get away with active, I would prefer passive as it cuts down on the cabling to the speakers.

Just the one, however this powered version is designed to provide power to one of its unpowered counterparts the CMX-110 through standard 6.3mm jack linkups. ;)

I use these.....

I bought tapco thumps as there designed to be used as either floor monitors or full range speakers and I prefered the warfdales. I link 2 at front of stage and run the amplified output to a passive speaker to the drummer.

Was recomended to buy these from a very busy wedding band I know , they use the passive versions but I prefered the flexability of active. For venues with limiters I run everything through the desk and use these to monitor Lead, rythem, bass guitars , keyboard and 2xvocals and the handle it really well .

Would highly recomend

Thanks for the info, to be honest it would be nice to have one a little more powerful.
I know you can’t hear watts and it all about dB, etc, but 65W RMS doesn’t sound a lot.

That’s true I forgot about that, I don’t know if I would feel comfortable having something that price on the floor. I know wedges can get a lot of abuse, like being used as a foot rest or even a step!

Then maybe try the SRM 350v2 cabinet... cheap, smaller & sounds a little better than the 450v2 in my books....

Also don't knock the W-Audio products, there little wages are quite good and for the money you cant go wrong.

I know of a small nightclub that has been installed these products and it never sounds BAD considering what some of there DJ's play ie rip tracks off Youtube !!
