Ok im having trouble using a digital camera to take some nice pictures of people at my disco's as well of my gear in action. Im using a 5 .1 megapixel camera (ream not interpolated) an epson cv-500 a great camera for most things but whenever i try to get pictures in low light conditions with ligths on from the disco either flash makes it to bright, or with out flash they become brured from the moving head type lighting. Any suggestions? i've tried mini tripod etc but I know someone will have a suggestin.... plz .....anyone......you at the back?

Thanks for any help

We had this trouble when we took out photos in the darkness. I think this is due to the fact that a certain amount of light is needed so you can get the camera to focus a little better and pick up the effects.

Maybe try having a few curtains open or a couple of room lights on...and then the overall standard of your pictures should be a lot better.

Hope this helps mate :)

Now I'm by no means david bailey, but it is to do with the camera settings. I use an Kodak Z740 and this has scene options on it. It does clever things like giving a small flash before and after the show, or adjusting the white balance. Generally if you want great pictures of your lights you will sacrifice a little sharpness of dancers - although at times I like that!

There is absolutely no need to open curtains or put strip lights on - just play with the camera.

Example of an action shot from one of our shows....

Ajusting those will help to :teeth:

Well with an action shot, there wouldn't be any time to open curtains and put on strip lights, so i am wrong again...although this did help us on our photo shoot, which took place before our gig on the night

I've got good results with no flash & the camera set to motion / sport setting (faster shutter speed)

Here's one I took a few weeks ago - it was just a case of turn the flash off, take loads of shots and hope for the best!

Yup to Fresh. :)

Oh right, so that explains the reason behind the purchase of the moving heads and possibly the L.E.D Pars.

Have fun with your new lighting Daz

And the Martin EFX500....

And the Isolution colour changers possibly.

I've gone off the idea of the pars.

Those are the ones.

The 4s are cheaper than the 5s, but the 5s are discharge and have rotating gobos.

I persume so, as it says:

"Will link with any of the iSolution series!"

So they can either be linked with the CA-8 controller, iSolution iLead DMX controller or another DMX controller

I posted that before i read your post in the "Moving Heads" thread :teeth:

But yeah, i think everyone gets the idea about the CA-8, so i'll lay off it somewhat :)

I take a Casio Exilim 7.2mp camera with me and i find it works best on standard/Easy Rec Mode. Personal preference where i can is to take the picture with the flash off. I find you get a better looking picture.

Heres a couple taken with the flash off

Another method that's worked for me is taking a video clip & doing a screen grab

You lose a lot of quality that way though.

But it depends how you intend to display them: if you intend to use them on-screen, you don't need as high a dpi.

Have to say that our digital camera does take some very good video clips of really good quality, so taking a still from the video works quite nicely.
