I'm doing a gig on saturday and it's black tie, i have my monkey suit ready, but just wondered which way is best for the collar/bow tie ? I usually do it like the right hand pic, but some do it the other way with the collar wings folded. Opinions ?

They are two seperate styles and collars...you cant turn one into the other. You either have a full collar (like the right one), or a half collar (like the left).

If you want to be cool, go for the 'half collar' but a 'full collar' is more traditional.

I prefer the half collars but it all depends on the suit.

ALWAYS a proper wing collar with a bow tie, IMO.

A standard collar just looks like you didn't have a proper dress shirt to wear the bow tie with to me!

(....and Charlie, I'm not sure where you got that it was more traditional to wear a standard collar  :daft: )

I agree,Wing collar. Also go for a non pleated shirt if possible,it just looks cleaner in my opinion.

Lol well I'm only doing 2hrs & only got a normal shirt (non pleated) so I'll go with that & get a winged one for the next time !

A wing collar and I, only personally, prefer non-pleats.

Surely a lot would depend which is the most comfortable. I don't like wing collars as they feel uncomfortable, so fashion considerations don't come into it. If have to suited and booted for say, four hours then comfort is the number consideration.

How so? The height of most wing collars is usually lower than that of your average standard collar. I would imagine this would make them more comfortable. Unless you need the support to hold your head up :sj:

as I said it's only 2hrs so will look into prices of a winged shirt for next time. (well before next time actually !)

Yep that is the best look. Mine is paired off with some black braces and of course the black and white spat shoes. Very tradional.

A wing collar should go with a single breasted jacket or is it the other way round....
