Just gotta say I got a pair of the new Equinox Scantastic 4s [eqled55] today, I have been waiting for these for a bit now and used them tonight in a hotel I do regularly for a corp function, it was for about 280 with an average age of prob about 30. There was a sit-down meal followed by the CEO and then a motivational speaker then the casino tables were running till 11pm. At 11pm we announced the winners of the casino and pumped the volume up and fired up the Scantastics till the end at 12.30am.

These are excellent lights…been a long day so not going to go too deeply but basically they are LED powered and about 2 foot long, 1 foot high and 6 inches deep with 4 lenses pointing onto 4 mirrors so 4 scanners in one unit that is about 6kg. I think all the Prolight dealers should have them by now and they sell for about £180 which works out at only £45 per head if you want to look at it like that.

On the back of the units there is the display window with 4 buttons for setting them up, a knob for sensitivity, XLR in and out and IEC in and out. I never ran them DMX, I just linked them and they sorted themselves out master/slave automatically. They scan left to right and up and down unlike the Dominator and they are bright with a big coverage. When the music is off or low they sweep nicely and when the volume goes up they are pretty fast but smooth, they would be even better with smoke or haze but none of that allowed in this venue tonight…still effective without though.

All in all I am very pleased with them and think they will sell well as either a centre piece or for one at each end of the gantry like I have done. They certainly went down well with my crowd tonight and I reckon they’re going to be invaluable for the Christmas parties too.

The general quality of these looks good to me and I understand the replacement mirrors are in stock, it looks easy to replace mirrors if they should become damaged by means of 4 screws. Furthermore they were developed and tested by Geoff at Prolight and then built in one of their partner factories so reliability shouldn’t be an issue.

Sorry if its not as in depth as it could be, I’m ready for bed really and just winding down and chilling with a JD. I would highly recommend you go and see these as I reckon they’re prob the best Led effect so far.

...still a load of dots and not any different to anything else on the market by the looks of it.

Which is sort of highlighted by the promotional video, which seems to work hard not to let you see any dots!

True but the movement is good and they are well syncronized.

And without smoke, they will just be a load more dots. ;)

I appreciate what you are saying about dots Daren and I do agree but I think its because we are a bit more up on disco lighting than Jo Public and when it comes to LED effects guess we are a bit fed up of dots. And...me and you are both used to Wizard Extremes and they spoil us but I do like to ring the changes on my show from one night to another. No doubt they are going to be better with some smoke or haze but they say a most definate no in the place I was last night, I am tempted to put on my Look on a steady flow like lots of others do and say they never have an alarm go off but if it does set the alarm off then they will say I knew all about it and was deliberately ignoring a direct instruction.

Of course a big difference in price to the Wizards and even other effects like the I Solution and EVL ranges.

When I was setting up last night the hotel staff were also setting up and saying what are those new toys and when I kicked them in they were pretty impressed and the punters were having a good look at them later on when the house llights were down and the party in full fling.

If I could find a way of mounting a single one on a tripid witbh a MiracLED either above or below it then its an all in one dry hire solution....
