Just gotta say I got a pair of the new Equinox Scantastic 4s [eqled55] today, I have been waiting for these for a bit now and used them tonight in a hotel I do regularly for a corp function, it was for about 280 with an average age of prob about 30. There was a sit-down meal followed by the CEO and then a motivational speaker then the casino tables were running till 11pm. At 11pm we announced the winners of the casino and pumped the volume up and fired up the Scantastics till the end at 12.30am.
These are excellent lights…been a long day so not going to go too deeply but basically they are LED powered and about 2 foot long, 1 foot high and 6 inches deep with 4 lenses pointing onto 4 mirrors so 4 scanners in one unit that is about 6kg. I think all the Prolight dealers should have them by now and they sell for about £180 which works out at only £45 per head if you want to look at it like that.
On the back of the units there is the display window with 4 buttons for setting them up, a knob for sensitivity, XLR in and out and IEC in and out. I never ran them DMX, I just linked them and they sorted themselves out master/slave automatically. They scan left to right and up and down unlike the Dominator and they are bright with a big coverage. When the music is off or low they sweep nicely and when the volume goes up they are pretty fast but smooth, they would be even better with smoke or haze but none of that allowed in this venue tonight…still effective without though.
All in all I am very pleased with them and think they will sell well as either a centre piece or for one at each end of the gantry like I have done. They certainly went down well with my crowd tonight and I reckon they’re going to be invaluable for the Christmas parties too.
The general quality of these looks good to me and I understand the replacement mirrors are in stock, it looks easy to replace mirrors if they should become damaged by means of 4 screws. Furthermore they were developed and tested by Geoff at Prolight and then built in one of their partner factories so reliability shouldn’t be an issue.
Sorry if its not as in depth as it could be, I’m ready for bed really and just winding down and chilling with a JD. I would highly recommend you go and see these as I reckon they’re prob the best Led effect so far.
