I have a load of text files like this: Pixie Lott - All About Tonight (3:02)

I'd like to lose the time and the () aspects.I'm sure there's aprogarmme that can do this but can't remember what it is.

Hi Dougie. Is it for editing the filenames on mp3's?

If so, Tag & Rename is what you're looking for.

Or the versatile, inexpensive, and splendid Media Monkey.

You need a text editor that supports regular expressions for search and replace.

I use EditPlus (http://www.editplus.com/index.html), a quick Google also found EditPad Pro (http://www.editpadpro.com/).

For more about regular expressions see http://www.regular-expressions.info/

MP3 Tag Tools is what I tend to use, it will also let you bulk rename a folder of tracks in one go
