OK, so my Jag X-Type is not big enough for my mobile rig. What do you folks use for transporting your kit?

I have a friend who uses his Vectra hatch and another who has a Ford Escort van.

I like my car image, thus am reluctant to get a van of any sort! Infact, I'm thinking of upgrading to a Jag S-Type (with 810 litres boot capacity when seats are folded down). Off course there is also a case for the MPV such as a Vauxhall Zafira, but I'll look like I have 2.4 kids!!

This is a tough one!!!! From Jag to MPV... Surley not!

If you want to keep your car, then buy a trailor.

OK now I think you've set me on the path to a nightmare!!! I think I will erase the image of that car from my mind! Well, atleast until the next time I look at this thread!

I use a Vauxhall Combo van at the moment although i've now out grown it and if i want to set up my full entire rig i have to do 2 or 3 trips or hire something bigger...

May have to look at buying something bigger in the new year...

Are you not worried about the state of your interior if your lugging gear around in it?

i use an 2000 reg primera hatchback purely for reliability. I can get everything in if i pack it well and use the front seats and a roofbox. the insurance is cheaper too

Lightspeed, I will get a long 'u' shaped sheet of carpeted plastic (custom made). When the seats are folded down, you lay this sheet on top, open up the flaps (one left and one right) which cover both doors. Easy, cheap and works!

This was quite 'posh' when I bought it....

Trailor for most gigs. Car on it's own for small gigs, karaoke and quizzes etc

Trailor, Dan

I did think of this.. but theres not really any place i can keep it. Plus it'll take me longer to get everywhere due to lower speed limits on motorways.

I do have a topbox in the shed though :teeth:

My first car when I was 17 was a mark 2 Escort Estate and when I ran out of space in that, I had to put a pair of cabs on the roof rack.. :omg:

That was OK 'till it rained

70 in a car and 60 with a trailor - not that much difference. (and I've been in your car :teeth: )

Although I cannot drive, my mate can. He is fully licensed and insured to use my parents Leyland Roadrunner. This proves to be way to big but its the only form of transport avalibe to transport my gear. Unless I was to do more than one trip but thats just a pain in the backside.

Hopefully when I start to learn to drive and get my first car it will be big enough to accomodate my disco gear.

I'm no Jeremy Clarkson but here goes:

Just went for the 'life' 1.6 petrol for insurance purposes. Smooth wee car with a/c, plus you have 7 seats. You can fold the 2 back seat away which gives you a nice big flat level boot. It also has similar mpg to my former car, Nissan Tino 2.2 Diesel.

Thankfully petrol has went down in price. :)

only bought it last month and discovered my first scrape last week.

I know that feeling well. When I started out my rig was small enough to go in the back of a corsa (the old shape model). It was fun packin it all in but it went in.

Then 3 years ago I bought a new shape corsa brand new, after 18 months the interior in the rear was wrecked and some scraths in the front from the lighting rig.

My rig is now far to big for the back of the car and I use a trailor. It was the best thing I done and wish I had bought one sooner to protect the car. No more unloading when you get home, just reverse the trailor into the garage.

Mine is a 6ft x 4ft box trailor. The Corsa pulls it ok. It holds it nice at 60 on the motorway, does not wobble about. Don't think I would want pull anything much bigger than that with a small car though.
