I am looking at adding a pc to my set up, mainly for ease of finding requests.
As I am fairly PC literate I was thinking of going the deskttop route as opposed to laptop.

Do any of you use a destop and if so how to you transport it? do you use some kind of flight case?

Thanks

Paul

You say "pc" which makes it sound like you will be better off changing the case first, before rack mounting it. You can buy a server case at C&Jcomputers http://www.cjcomputers.co.uk/

They specialise in cases.

Folks,

What do you use your pc's for whilst at gigs? Do you use pc based mixing systems?

You might want to do a search on that - there's loads of info here about it.

Failing that, start a new thread, rather than hijack someone elses. :)

Hi,

So the plan so far, get hold of cheap desktop and small flatscreen PC clean re-install of windows. Change case for a rackmount type and add soundcard. Load on Ableton live and Traktor and nothing else. Can anyone see any issue with this set up.

I was looking at storing my music on a separate 200 gig usb drive. So that I can do all the downloading and ripping on my pc that I use at home and keep the one for the road clean. Is this the right plan?

Thanks

It's what I'd do (though I'd still prefer a laptop, although I know it's not as upgradable, there is so much less hassle with cables, transport etc). Though you need a good processor to run Ableton properly. Forget Celerons if your going with Intel as well. I'll look into a flightcase for you.

I have a shuttle PC System bolted to the back of my mixer case with a Rack-mounted keyboard & trackball mouse for my gig pc system.... Works really well as it's fully protected from knocks and bumps, doesn't involve any extra carrying of items into a venue and no one can see the system or any evidence of it anyway as it's hidden in the case they only see the monitor and keyboard...

In the process of buying another and doing the same in my 6U flightcase that holds my Backup Stanton Dual CD player, the Wireless mic receivers and Lem audio processor.. That way i'll have a backup up and running and ready to go should the main one go down... So in the time it takes to play a track in the CD Player i'll be back up and running.

Thanks all very much for your help. I am going to get a USB harddrive this weekend and start ripping (thats if I am not to tired after doing two gigs)

Can you suggest the best programe for ripping to MP3 and what bit rate rate settings I should use.

Most people seem to agree that Audiograbber is very good.

If you have a large enough drive then rip at 320kbps.

Audiograbber is great, also download MixMeister BPM Analyzer, its free and better than pcdj for adding BPM to your mp3 tracks
