Folks,

Can someone reccomend 2U flight cases for my Behringer 2500 amps? Ideally I'd like to stick to circa £40 each.

My CD & mixer are in a black and silver case,. so a matching case would be nice (but not essential).

The Behringer dimensions are 88 x 482 x 402mm.

Thanks!

Jay

Well I know everyone says maplin isnt great, but they have 2U flight cases in store for £29.99 upwards. Black carpet covered with corners already on.
Might be worth a look. Or failing that try KamKase.

The maplin ones aren't long enough...

I've heard good reports about these from over the sea.. http://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?sw=thon+2u&x=0&y=0

Surely no-one would be able to build a custom one for around £40 though?? I wouldn't have thought it'd be worth it...

ABS and similar plastic ones fall into your budget, but i bet those thomann ones would be way better and last much longer.

You think it would be too much in terms of weight to have both of my behringer 2500 amps in 1 4U case? KamKase have a tough looking 4U case and it's just £20 over my budget, so I'll stretch to it. Only if I will be able to lift it!

I got the 4 wharfedale speakers from the car and into the house... **** they were heavy!! I'll have to employ a roadie!

Best to get a 6U case really... so you have room for an active crossover when you want to buy one.

If you can transport it, get what i have, a 10u on wheels. If you have a venue with stairs just take one amp out to use.

I'm only a wee lad! I'd need to buy a fork lift for the 10U!!!

Back on the subject of cases... I have my second EP2500 arriving next week, thus I need to case them both.

Can you give me your opinion on which looks the best out of the following (in terms of strength, durability & quality):

Thon - http://www.thomann.de/gb/thon_rack_2he_economy.htm
Stagg - http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/abs-2u/10271
ABS - http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/prodpage.asp?prodid=1797

Muchos gracias!

Swan fligh t are very expensive... Hence I have already narrowed down 3 cases within my budget...

Anyone else like to have a stab at my last post?

Yes swan are expensive but the cases are the best i have seen and used.Plus they made in the uk.Alot stronger than the abs plastic stuff.Think how much did your amp cost you.

I just had another butchers at the Thomann case (http://www.thomann.de/gb/thon_rack_2he_economy.htm). The description reads:

"Thon Rack Rack 2 Units Wood, 4 locks, 40cm deep, outside dimensions (whd) 53,5 x 14,5 x 50,5 cm, weight: 6,5 kg "

But my Behringer EP2500 amp is 40.2CM deep...

You want this one then -

http://www.thomann.de/gb/thon_rack_2he_economy_45.htm

The rack section is 45cm deep. Its only 50.5cm when the front and back lids are on.

Thanks Danno :)

Have another question. The rack link you gave me, has two handles (one on either side). When I carry this rack with an amp in it, is it ok just to hold one of the handles (this way I will be able to hold and amp in each hand. What do you think?

Jay

Danno13
29-10-2006, 09:16 PM
Wouldn't have thought that would matter. I carry my amps sideways quite alot so i can free up the other hand and haven't had a problem.

Although, why not just get 1 4U rack for both if your planning on carrying them both together?

DJay
30-10-2006, 06:03 AM
My speakers are circa 33KG each. Carrying 1 of them is is possible and that's how I got them home. But having to carry 4 of them one by one to a gig is too much! Thus I feel that carrying 1 4U rack with 2 18KG or so amps is a tad hazzardous for my back!

A 4U would also be much cheaper that 2 2U's.... But it's just the weight I have an issue with.

Also, because I ordered a Crosover, I will need 1 2U and 1 3U.....

Danno13
30-10-2006, 12:44 PM
But you said..

(this way I will be able to hold and amp in each hand.

So that way will actually be heavier than carrying both amps in 1 4U rack as you have extra metal work for the extra flightcase!

Hi Danno,

Must also remember that having everything in 1 rack means if I have a small gig, I would have to take the whole rack.... Wheras with two smaller racks I could just take what I need.

I really appreciate you help with this mate :)

Thanks

I know nothing about the build quality of cases! Thus have to ask about the handle on this case from ebay. It looks flimsy! Will it actually hold the 17KG's of EP2500?????

That's my main concern with all cases is when they will actually break. The ABS style cases look the easiest to hold, the Thon from Thomann look like they could dig into your palm and this one on ebay looks like the handle might give way.

Most people have suggested I go for the case on Thomann (£54). But I still need convincing!

Silly really, I have everything now... Lights, cd, mixer, Xover, speakers etc. Just no **** flight case for the kit!
