Thats the only title I could think of..............:D

I have a 500gb SATA drive in my home pc , now around 85% full , I have bits all over the place , so a backup seems a very daunting task , so...............

Is it possible to install a brand new 1tb SATA drive , and boot from that ( after installing XP from disk) , and copying over files like Music , photos etc , before formatting the old drive.

Procedure.

disconnect old drive.
install new drive
boot from XP disk
install XP on new drive
Re connect old drive
copy what I need
format old drive

When both drives are connected , will the pc try to boot from the old drive , is there settings in the BIOS to force the PC to boot from a particular drive ?

I dont want to copy the contents of the old drive to the new one using drive copy or norton ghost etc, that will mean copying all the old rubbish that has accumulated over the years.

cheers

No, It should give you a choice of what system you want to boot, Failing that press F8 and tell it what to boot from.

You might want to switch to Win 7 as they are dropping support for XP very soon ~April 2014.
