Hi looking for some smallish speakers.
rather than lug about my dxr15's and sub all the time i would like to get a couple of maybe 10 or 12 inch active speakers to use at very small venues and kids parties etc that still sit on speaker stands
budget abour 400.00
appreciate any advice or recommendations
thanks

Slightly out of your budget, but I use the EV ZLX12 and really rate them, but they are about £650 a pair. They are 1000w and do work well in small to medium venues and the good thing about them is you can change the settings on them from live, speech, dance, club etc. as well as basic eq features like bass and treble. For bigger venues I use a 15" sub along with them.

Thanks for the advice but i already have some brand new speakers that just cost me 1800 pound so dont need to spend out a lot and for medium to large venues i have all the speaker power i need, its just that im looking for a nice little compact pair of speakers that will do for kids parties and christenings etc.
i have seen some perfect ones from a company called power dynamics but have no experience of them yet.

You'd be lucky to find a pair for £400, unless you go second hand.

Only thing I can think of would be something from the Alto range (http://www.djkit.com/category.php?id=247&manufacturer=186). DJKit are selling this particular one (http://www.djkit.com/alto-professional/alto-truesonic-ts112a-800w-active-speaker.html?cat=247) for not too far above your budget.

In the end i have opted to steer clear of the budget range and gone for two JBL eon 315's at £550.00
280 watt rms and should be great for small kids parties etc
anyone have any experience of these or the 515's and what you think of them?

I was going to mention the Peavey Hisys range.
I was very impressed with them (promobile review no 64) especially the different settings on the back.

I managed to get 2 Peavey H12s for just over a grand and am well pleased with them. So much so I got another pair soon after. Good full sound works small and large rooms well.

I did not have a lot to compare them too and tested them at home, but was suitably impressed with the build quality and features. :)
Took them a month to collect it, I was hoping they had forgotten ;)

I thought you were looking for smaller speakers, not just ones that were less capable? Don't the 315's also have 15" drivers?

I'm so glad you pointed that out. I couldn't work out why we started out looking for 10 or 12 inch cabs, and ended up with fifteens. :daft:

They only weigh 15.9Kg. I assumed that the weight saving was enough to offset the larger driver.

If you look on Thomann, for around your £400 budget, you could get 10" DB Cromo cabs, or Mackie SRM 350. Just a thought.

Well just got one of them delivered and can't believe how light they are compared to the dxr15s
In fact there a good 7 bags of sugar lighter (15 lbs) and got plenty of carry handles so I think I'll keep them now and see how they fare

You've also got the FBT J8's...I use a pair of these for VERY small parties of up to 50 people or less...

During the war we had speakers that weighed ten chickens. :p
6.8kg. I would not go back to speakers over 15 kg since getting my 10 inch RCF 310's.
