Hi,

I have been deliberating, really long and hard about what equipment will be my first purchase.

I have browsed many of the excellent threads on here.

However, the one piece of kit I like the look of, as the basis of my starter package,
I dont seem to have found many reviews anywhere :(

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I prefer the CD Mixer style packages.
Would start off doing private parties, birthdays, and celebration do's.
Have also been asked to do, small gigs in Rugby Club type of venues etc.

Hope to get to the Lighting' in due course.... but for now, would really appreaciate
your views on this package, as a starter for a 'Newbie'.

the cd mix three is ok as a starter, but to be honest for a little more you could get a more robust unit. i would say this is ok as a backup, but you might be better looking for a seperate mixer and cd unit, rather than an all in one.

The Gemini XTR-500 looks like it will be fine for private parties at home but would probably run out of steam in a hall. 85watts through a 10inch top isn't going to be mind blowing. They also seem a bit mixed up with the frequency responses:

- 230 watts RMS on subwoofer channel
(Subwoofer Freq. Response: 100Hz to 20kHz)
- 85 watts RMS per satellite channel
(Satellite Freq. Response: 35Hz to100Hz)

The subwoofer should have the lower 35hz to 100 hz frequency response.

For your budget, you would probably be better off getting a Numark Dimension 3 or 4 or a Behringer 1500 or 2500, a couple of class D 15" cabs and a couple of speaker stands.

I'm sure you would quickly out grown the set up you have chosen and the amp or speakers would have to be both dumped when you wanted to upgrade.

You really need to go somewhere where you can listen to the amp/speaker setup.

Agree with the above comment about decks/mixer.
