Before someone else does, I'll ask the usual........

What do you want it for?
What's your budget?

(Think I'm going to get a hot key with a short-cut to typing this message!)

Well although I normally suggest Shure or JTS I just bought a Gemini Head Set Radio mike for £145 and it sounds ok to me, its going for a gig test tomorrow night so will let you know.

I believe you can get the hand helds at a reasonable price--shop around.

I would avoid the Maplin type radio mikes, they sound awful to me.

Dragonfly swears by his Gemini Radio Mike---but then again hes always swearing:D

In that case, go for this (free headset and lapel mic) http://www.djkit.co.uk/acatalog/KAM_Radio_Microphones.html or this (rack mount) http://www.decks.co.uk/products/microphones/kam/kwm1930

I use them for karaoke and they're fine.

yes ive had mine for about 2 years now never a problem and sounds fine to me have had 2 club djs claim they didnt like the sound but ??? and have had other djs say my sound was excellent?? its very robust and the thing i like is its got like an octagonal bit just below the head so if you put it on a table or such it doesnt roll off.

i have to admit i have recently returned to a leaded shure sm58 for djing with a 3ft cable i think it is ... helps to stop the my mates an mc brigade .... sorry mate only a short lead .... no one told me there was going to be an artst as well?

of course i carry longer leads and a spare sm58 but they dont know that.

I buy Nady uhf wireless mics. You dont want to get exspencive sure mics cause they will get abused and broke. Nady sounds good and is pretty durable. I got two for $99.99 each mic about 2 years ago and picked up 2 more on sale for $89.99 each a few months ago at www.musiciansfreiend.com. I also have a dual set of Nady 2 in 1 vhf mics that are good. the only problem is 9v batteries. My other mics use AA's. Much cheaper batteries. Stay away from the Nady DKW series. They are crap. I forgot to mention that you can hook two recievers together and rack mount them.

2 things spring to mind here: 1. Don't know about anyone else, but I've never heard of 'Nady', so I'm not sure they sell over here, and 2. Price-wise, we seem to get shafted compared to US prices.... you can usually just swap the $ for a £ and forget any exchange rate!

Man that sucks. I have a friend in Canada who sends me money to buy stuff here and he comes down and picks it up at my house. What is the exchange rate from $ to....you know what I dont have the Euro's key on my keyboard. Can you guys buy stuff from www.musiciansfriend.com?

Have any of you used AKG's?

We use them, especially the TM40 and SM40 transmitters. The former can be connected to any mic of your choosing, and retains the features of the mic its attached to. The later needs to be inserted to the AKG DM880, a good mic, but very basey.

As long as you have the AKG receiver, preferably the dual receiver, then you can convert your best cable mic into a radio mic.

Any thoughts very welcome.

Cheers

I have used those for Live Sound and have had them dropped and broken. I would be leary of letting drinking guest doing karaoke get thier hands on expencive gear.

Sound advice, we dont usually, except when hosting a live act, or using them ourselves. For Karaoke we use the Kam radio mics, and yes the AKG's are expensive, but a lovely sound. I think better than the Sure SM58, which we have used sometimes.;)
