250 I would presume as that discharges light as well (its a silly term I know)

As far as I'm aware, it's the 150W as they are high discharge.

I think he means a 250 halogen vs. 150 discharge.

Its hard to tell really, cos alot depends on the optics of the light in question. Martin 812s are 150 discharge and wipe the floor with any 250w halogen based light that i've seen, but might not be the same for other lights.

it is basucally a decision of martin mx`1s again or the mx4 mx` being halogen mx4 being discharge

When using colours, they would be pretty simular in terms of brightness. In white, the discharge lamp would 'cut' through the air better.

Don't forget the quality of 'optics' will have a bearing on this as well.

i was told they would be very similar light wise but discharge lamps last loads longer but are 10000000000000000 times the price of halogens (please note i may have exaggerated the number of zeros slightly)

That is what you may think, but if you work it out...

A standard 50 hour Halogen A1/259 (used in Datamoon) will cost you around £4, if you're lucky. An MSD250 (used in a lot of moving heads, Wizard etc) will set you back around £70, but lasts a minimum of 2000 hours.

If you work it out, the halogens (approx 40 of them!) will cost you more than twice the price of the single discharge lamp, plus no hastle of changing lamps every few shows :D

just got two prolight matrix's with a 300 watt discharge lamp and Wildtech Kaleido HID. There a lot brighter than the martin ef3's and efx500.Go for the discharge lamps everytime.

I actually think the EF3s are very bright for a 100w halogen effect, though i don't really have anything to compare them with.
